The
Maya calendar ends on December 21 2012 and the amount of people,
who preach the end of the world is risin’. Fortunately it
didn’t happen yet or the two days “Armageddon Fest”
wouldn’t take place, which was launched by Coilcry
drummer David Horstmann and Total
Annihilation singer Daniel Altwegg. Magna Mortalis had to call
off their show and Antagonist couldn’t play either. In a word
the Swiss freaKings
were hired. The venue for this eve was youth centre Purple Park in
City of Basel. Sometimes there are Metal shows and there are only
a few possibilities to play shows in City of Basel.
Storm
Warning
from Lörrach, Baden-Wurttemberg, Germany opened as first act.
Singer Johnny Topside and band convinced the spectators in the
front row with classic influenced Heavy Metal. Johnny had a
microphone in shape of a stick with a wired snake in his hand. The
headbangers liked it; Johnny felt their enthusiasm and threw a
T-shirt into the crowd. Their music reminded of NWOBHM legend
Saxon what you noticed in singin’ and guitar playin’.
Generally,
the crowd was active and went totally nutz. That doesn’t go
without sayin’. This was also responsible that guitarists Tim H.
and Andy N. started kickin’ ass. All hells broke lose when
“Breaking The Law” by Judas Priest pumped out the speakers and
the spectators sung the whole song together with Johnny Topside.
Unfortunately, the band anthem “Storm Warning” finished the
great performance. However Storm
Warning made an impression and received standing ovations.

freaKings
were the second live act. The Thrashers of upper Basel Country
area, Switzerland kicked ass after the intro to “Our father”
and proved that Thrash Metal with American trademarks doesn’t
have to be from the USA in order to sound great. freaKings
singer Jonathan Brutschin’s performance with Death Metal vocals
was outstandin’ and gave the sonic brew an own note. The
spectators liked this show very much and asked for an encore. The
bass guitar influenced “No Insight” got played and received
much resonance on the demanding crow, who asked for a bass guitar
solo. This track rounded off the amazin’ performance and freaKings left.

Erupdead
entered the stage as third live act. Technical differences caused
a delay and their show started several minutes later. This
didn’t prevent ‘em from startin’ furious. Singer Sebi showed
a great vocal performance, during guitarist Matt convinced with
ground breakin’ guitar tunes. Besides the split CD “End of
Days” got baptized which included three new tracks of Erupdead
and Total Annihilation. Later that night Erupdead stood together on
stage with all members of Total
Annihilation.
The
CD got covered with beer which caused much applause from the
crowd. The graphic designer of the CD cover got a coupon for a
diner in City of Basel as a gift for his good job. The world
should’ve gone down today and singer Sebi refused playin’ the
new track “Bolon Yokte ‚K’uh”. But the agreed with the
crowd and you enjoyed this song. “The source of evil” became
the obligate encore after “The Great Machinery” before the
show was over.

entered the stage as headliner late. Despite this circumstance the
crowd was still partyin’ and celebrated every single song.
Singer Daniel Altwegg often switched the stage sides in order to
get in touch and involve with the crowd. The music received
positive feedback with circle pits and moshin’. The amazin’
performance forced Total Annihilation playin’ two more encores “Remember the
Fallen” by Sodom and “Ordered Eastwards” by Hail of Bullets
after “Thrash Metal and Dosenbier” to satisfy the spectators.
They were the most awaited act of tonight and did a hella good
job.

second day has to offer if the world doesn’t go down.
Der Maya
Kalender endet am 21.12.2012 und deswegen haben Apokalyptische
Weltuntergangsprediger Hochkonjunktur und erzählen die ganze Zeit
was von Weltuntergang. Glücklicherweise ist er noch nicht
eingetreten, denn sonst würde das 2-tägige „Armageddon
Festival“ nicht stattfinden, welches von Coilcry
Schlagzeuger David Horstmann und
Total Annihilation
Sänger Daniel Altwegg ins Leben gerufen wurde. Im Vorfeld mussten
Magna Mortalis ihren Auftritt absagen. Nachdem auch Antagonist
nicht auftreten konnten, wurde kurzerhand die Schweizer Band freaKings
engagiert. Als Austragungsort fungiert der Jugendtreffpunkt
Purple Park in Basel wo zwischendurch Metal Konzerte stattfinden.
Das ist auch gut so, denn in Basel gibt es zu wenige Möglichkeiten
um als Band aufzutreten.
Storm

Deutschland durften den Abend eröffnen. Mit ihrem klassisch geprägten
Heavy Metal begeisterten Sänger Johnny Topside und Band die
Zuschauer in den vorderen Rängen. Johnny hatte ein Mikrophon in
Form eines Gehstocks in der Hand auf dem eine umgewickelte
Schlange sichtbar war. Dies fanden die Headbanger super und weil
Johnny deren Begeisterung spürte warf er ein Band T-Shirt ins
Publikum. Ihre Musik erinnerte an die NWOBHM Legende Saxon was
sich im Gesang und Gitarrenspiel widerspiegelte.
Generell war das Publikum
aktiv und ging voll ab was nicht selbstverständlich ist. Das
verleitete auch die Gitarristen Tim H. und Andy N. dazu Vollgas zu
geben und ordentlich abzurocken. Als „Breaking The Law“ von
Judas Priest erklang, drehten die Zuschauer erst recht durch und
sangen mit Johnny Topside den ganzen Song. Leider war nach der
Bandhymne „Storm Warning“ Schluss. Jedoch hinterliessen Storm
Warning einen bleibenden Eindruck und ernteten dafür viel
Applaus.

freaKings
waren als zweite Band dran. Die Oberbaselbieter Thrash Metaller
gaben nach dem Intro zu „Our Father“ Vollgas und bewiesen,
dass Thrahs Metal amerikanischer Prägung nicht aus den USA kommen
muss damit er toll klingt. Was auffiel war die Darbietung von freaKings
Frontmann Jonathan Brutschin, der sich mit Death Metal Gesang
hervortat und dem Schallgebräu eine eigene Note verlieh. Die
Zuschauer fanden den Auftritt so toll, dass sie eine Zugabe
einforderten. Das sehr bass lastige „ No Insight“ kam zum Zug
was beim Basssolo fordernden Publikum auf Anklang gestossen war
und dessen Verlangen stillte. Dieses Lied rundete den
sensationellen Auftritt ab und freaKings
verabschiedeten sich.

Schwierigkeiten verzögerte sich der Auftritt um ein paar Minuten,
was sie dann aber nicht davon abhielt furious loszulegen. Sänger
Sebi zeigte eine tolle Gesangsleistung während Gitarrist Matt mit
brachialen Gitarrenriffs aufwartete. Ferner wurde die Split CD
„End of Days“ getauft, welche je drei neue Songs von Erupdead
und Total Annihilation enthält. Wenig später standen Erupdead
mit allen Mitgliedern von Total Annihilation
auf der Bühne.
Wie sich das gehört, wurde
die CD mit Bier übergossen was wiederum Jubel beim Publikum auslöste.
Der Grafikdesigner vom CD-Cover bekam als Dankeschön für seine
gute Arbeit einen Gutschein für ein Essen in der Stadt Basel. Da
heute Die Welt hätte untergehen sollen, weigerten sich Sebi zunächst
den neuen Song „Bolon
Yokte ‚K’uh“ zu spielen. Allerdings gab er auf Drängen
des Publikums nach und man kam in den Genuss des besagten Liedes. Nach
„The Great Machinery“ folgte mit „The Source of Evil“ die
obligate Zugabe bevor die Show zu Ende war.

Annihilation trat zu später Stunde als
Headliner auf. Trotz dieses Umstandes zeigte sich das Publikum
nach wie vor von seiner besten Seite und feierte jeden einzelnen
Song ab. Sänger Daniel Altwegg wechselte oft die Bühnenseite um
mit dem Publikum in Kontakt zu treten und es mit einzubeziehen.
Die Musik bekam viel positive Resonanz was sich in Circle Pits und
Moshen zeigte. Durch ihren erstklassigen Auftritt mussten Total
Annihilation zwei
weitere Zugaben „Remember the Fallen“ von Sodom und „Ordered
Eastwards“ von Hail of Bullets nach „Thrash Metal and
Dosenbier“ spielen um die Zuschauer zufrieden zu stellen.
Insgesamt waren sie die am sehnlichsten erwartete Band des Abends
und zeigten eine tolle Show.
