The Bonebreaker Ball tour was established in 2010 to support small bands with opportunities to play shows and gainin’ new fans in different areas of Switzerland. In the meantime, the tour is takin’ place for the third time and stops for a show in Basel. It’s very pleasin’ because the last show with hard music was the Madball concert at the Sommercasino. I got myself a ticket when I saw the ad for the first time.
The Sommercasino opened its gates on 7 PM and you could enter the venue. The local Heavy Rockers Threat of Denial opened the evening. Guitar player Raffaelle Uccella was on stage with the Basler for the second last time. He convinced with catchy guitar tunes and the new singer Filipe Pratas convinced with a strong singin’ accomplishment. You could describe the music as a hybrid of US-Rockmusic combined with a shot of Metal. The music blew out the speakers but the melodies didn’t get lost. The audience liked the music and applauded cheerfully. Unfortunately, the performance ended after 40 minutes with the Stone Sour cover version “Absolute Zero”. Concededly, the performance was phenomenal.

Skylla’s Revenge was the second band. The young Metalcore band from Thun was very happy about the chance playin’ in the Sommercasino venue and thanked the organisers. In the beginning, technical difficulties caused a short interruption. Then they began! Groovy music with monster riffings and bass inclusive breakdowns drove the spectators crazy. Violent dancing followed and nobody could hold more. Their music was appreciated by the audience. There was even space for a guitar solo by Mischa Bratch and earned much applause. Overall, the Thuner scored and made a good impression.

Then Lotrify were the next. The Melodic Metal band from Baden had an outfit for each member and did their best right from the start. Although the audience consists mainly of Core-fans, they initiated enthusiasm. Above all they proved that Melodic Metal doesn’t need too much strumming tells let the guitars speak for themselves. Singer Sacha Wacker did a great vocal performance. Lotrify finished their set with the Scooter cover version „Maria“ and earned much applause for the innovative performance of this track.

I was most lookin’ forward to Scream Your Name. The Metalcore Band from Bern already had shows in Berlin and Cologne. In addition they issued a professional video on Youtube and increased their brand. A technical problem with a sample delayed the performance. A technician came up and fixed the problem. Afterwards the lights went out and the show could begin. Heavy breakdowns straight in your faces and an outstanding performance of singer Stefan Jaun with a flexible voice, which alternates cleane vocal parts with growls. The music was like a revelation that left the audience that packed the Sommercasino in ecstasy. The spectators liked every single song. „So Much Pain“ marked the end and Scream Your Name received loud applause. That was great!

Finally, headliner Promethee entered the stage on 11:55 PM. Some spectators had left the venue and the audience shrinked. But the Genevans didn’t care. They kicked ass right from the start and tried to blow away the tiredness. This was achieved well and caused applause. The show ended after 40 minutes and Promethee said goodbye. In spite of tired spectators, they convinced from the beginning to the end.

A nice evening came to an end. Thanks to the Bonebreaker organisers, Sommercasino team, the bands and the spectators, who were part of this.

German version

2010 wurde die Bonebreaker Ball Tour ins Leben gerufen um kleinen Bands die Möglichkeit zu geben in verschiedenen Gegenden der Schweiz Konzerte zu geben und neue Fans zu gewinnen. Mittlerweile findet die Tour zum dritten Mal statt und legt einen Zwischenhalt in der Stadt Basel ein. Sehr erfreulich, denn das letzte Konzert mit harter Musik war Madball im Sommercasino. Als ich zum ersten Mal den Flyer gesehen hatte, besorgte ich mir das Ticket.
Um 19 Uhr öffneten das Sommercasino seine Pforten und gewährte Einlass. Als erste Band des Abends durften die lokalen Heavy Rocker Threat of Denial eröffnen. Gitarrist Raffaelle Uccella war zum vorletzten Mal mit den Baslern auf der Bühne. Er glänzte mit eingängigen Gitarrenriffs und der neue Frontmann Filipe Pratas legte eine erstklassige Gesangsleistung hin. Die Musik könnte man als einen Hybrid aus kraftvollem US-Rock mit einem Schuss Metal beschreiben. Es knallt ordentlich aus den Lautsprechern, aber die Melodie geht nie verloren. Dem Publikum gefällt die Musik und applaudiert fröhlich. Leider war der Auftritt nach 40 Minuten mit dem Stone Sour Cover „Absolute Zero“ zu Ende. Allerdings war das Dargebotene schlichtweg erste Sahne.

Skylla’s Revenge waren als zweite Band an der Reihe. Die junge Thuner Metalcore Combo freute sich sehr über die Chance im Sommercasino zu spielen und bedankte sich dafür. Technische Probleme sorgten zu Beginn für einen kurzen Unterbruch. Aber dann ging es los! Groovige Musik mit fetten Riffs und Bass inklusive Breakdowns bringen die Zuschauer zum durchdrehen. Violent Dancing folgt und es gibt kein Halten mehr. Ihre Musik sorgt für Begeisterung beim Publikum. Sogar Platz für ein Gitarrensolo von Mischa Bratch hatte man und erntete viel Applaus. Insgesamt konnten die Thuner voll punkten und hinterliessen einen tollen Eindruck.

Danach waren Lotrify an der Reihe. Die Badener Melodic Metaller traten in einem einheitlichen Outfit auf und gaben von Anfang an ihr Bestes. Obwohl das Publikum mehrheitlich aus Core-Fans bestand, gelang es ihnen Begeisterung auszulösen. Vor allem bewiesen sie, das Melodic Metal auch ohne übermässiges Keyboardgeklimper auskommt und liessen die Gitarren für sich sprechen. Sänger Sacha Wacker zeigte eine tolle Gesangsleistung. Mit dem Scooter Cover „Maria“ beendeten Lotrify ihren Auftritt und bekamen für die originelle Darbietung viel Applaus.

Auf Scream Your Name freute ich mich am meisten. Die Berner Metalcore Band spielte schon in Berlin und Köln. Ausserdem veröffentlichten sie einen professionellen Videoclip auf Youtube und steigerten dadurch ihren Bekanntheitsgrad. Ein technisches Problem mit dem Sample verzögerte den Auftritt. Ein Techniker eilte heran und behob die Panne. Dann gingen die Lichter aus und die Show konnte beginnen. Deftige Breakdowns in die Fresse und eine hochkarätige Darbietung von Sänger Stefan Jaun mit einer variablen Stimme, die cleane Gesangsparts mit Growlen abwechselt. Die Musik war wie eine Offenbarung, die das Sommercasino Publikum in Ekstase versetzte und die Zuschauer feierten jeden Song ab. „So Much Pain“ läutete das Ende ein und Scream Your Name wurden mit lautstarkem Applaus überschüttet. Das war super!

Zu guter Letzt betraten Promethee um 23:55 Uhr die Bühne. Einige Zuschauer waren gegangen und das Publikum geschrumpft. Aber den Genfern war das egal. Sie traten von Anfang an den restlichen Fans in den Hintern und versuchten die Müdigkeit wegzublasen. Dies gelang ihnen gut und löste Jubel aus. Nach 40 Minuten war Schluss und Promethee verabschiedeten sich. Trotz müden Zuschauern überzeugten sie von Anfang bis Ende.
