EAT CLIT OR DIE

Now, I must admit to not be that much into the most extreme death/grind bands, which there are literally zillions of, but there are these few bands that has the little extra charm with them, something refined, and well, how can you fail with the name of CLITEATER ?? So, after the bands second album ?Eat Clit or Die? I decided it just had to be about time to do a small interview with the band, to see if the band has something else on their mind than just.. clits. Here we go, guitarist Ivan is the one who explains.

- ?Eat Clit or Die? again impressed me I must admit, maybe not that much musical development in any direction between the previous ?Clit Em All? and to the new one, but what can you expect, right ? Do you feel yourself the band has reached its goals with the new album ?

Oh Yes we did. The new album has reached every goal we had with it. The songs are stronger, better, longer, the lyrics are better, overall a better album in our opinion then the first one. Clit em All was already finished when the band line up completed and with EAT CLIT OR DIE we were all involved in the writing process. It was the first time we fully operate as a whole band and that really worked out great!!

- But let?s start a bit with the base of the band, how did five guys just come together to form a band such as Cliteater ? Was there just five friends jamming together something worthwhile, or was it a serious plan behind all this ?

In the beginning there was no serious plan behind it. Somewhere in 2001 I started by myself a project with a drum computer. I played at that time in a grind band called GROBAR. In my spare time i was making some noise and a couple of months later our GROBAR bass player Vedran said he wanted to play the bass in my project. Together we where making noise after the GROBAR rehearsels and after some time we recorded a couple of songs on a tape and brought it to a party where Joost(Inhume) was. He was immediately interested and CLITEATER was formed. We recorded a promo and got a record deal with DISMEMBERMENT/BLEEDING HEMMEROID recs. for one cd. It was for sure we needed a flesh and blood drummer and I noticed Maurice (Hymen Holocaust) before in FLESHBRIGADE so I contacted him and he was also interested. After 2 years we were looking for a 2nd guitar player and after a while we met Alex on the Fuck The Commerce fest 2004. We all knew Alex for a long time so we asked him and he said yes and the rest is history. . . . .

- I noticed there is a new split CD with Suppository in the works, that will be out this spring. What can the world await on ?Reign in Thongs?

What can I say? Reign In Thongs goes further where EAT CLIT OR DIE was ended. The new songs are more heavier and the sound is awesome. This is the first time we recorded it al by ourselves at Maurice his home studio. This is the best sound we ever had. The split cd will be released by No Escape records from Australia in April 2006. (www.noescaperecords.com)

Check it out!!!!

- I also noticed the band must be extremely creative, as you are already well on your way with the composition of your third album. How is the album taking shape ? Anything you can tell us from behind the scenes ?

6 new songs are already completed for our next split cd with Ausie groove-grinders THE DAY EVERYTHING BECOME NOTHING. We are going to record these songs probably in August 2006. We are also making new songs for a 3rd full-length. We’re going to try to record these songs in the end of 2006, or in the beginning of 2007. When that is finished, we will try to find a good label to release that shit! That’s al for now folks haha

- Your form of brutal death/grind seems to have a incredible foundation in Holland, do you feel the support there as important for the bands acceptance ? I can not imagine any other European country with the same amount of bands in the genre, maybe with the exception of the Czech Republic...

It is probably in the soil, or the weed but there are a lot of good bands coming from the Netherlands. And ofcourse it is important for us that there is a good support from the people and bands here. It is good to see that people and bands accepted us as one of them. That is making the brutal underground scene here stronger and stronger.

- I must say the graphics of your albums is rather breathtaking, still not for those who look for glamorise shots. Do you put a lot of work also into the gore-section of the band to make it all look in style ?

No not at all. Luisma (HAEMORRHAGE) drew all of our album covers because we like his style of bloody art. It costs no time for us, we only do the booklet layout by ourselves but it costs no months to create. Just a couple of days.

- Of course your sexist style may be offensive to some of the female audiences, do you ever get any feedback for your extremities ?

Yes but most of the time of women who are not into the grindcore scene and doesn’t understand it is al fiction and horror we are singing about. They serious think that we every weekend ejaculate on a baked foetus haha. Come on, we are not insane, It is just a way of positive shocking.

- Where do you as a band take the inspiration for the musical creation of Cliteater ? Do you find enthusiasm in other bands, movies... or solely in thinking of clits ?

Most of the musical inspiration is coming from other bands like MORTICIAN, GUT, IMPETIGO. They are all our heroes. Most of the lyrical inspiration is what we see on the news, films, and the insane mind of our singer Joost (sorry Joost) Last but not least, of course we all are fucking cliteaters, that’s is our biggest inspiration for writing the musick we make.

- haha, there?s a own part on your webpage dedicated to the female underwear that you get thrown up on stage while you play. What a brilliant idea! Do you see the band getting drowned in thongs now in the near future ?

We all hope so haha. It all started as a joke and we hope that we can collect enough underwear to start a underwear shop for making money haha.

- 2005 is now going into the historybooks, but what do you think are the best albums that came out during the year ? Anything you look forward to checking out in this next year to come ?

Exit of Rotten sound is a great album, just as Brain Corrosion of Dead Infection! I am looking forward to hear the new Day Everything Become Nothing and the new Inhume and Hymen Holocaust!!

-What would be your dream coming true with Cliteater ?

A dream come true with CLITEATER? Get a good label, making a lot of cd,s,  doing a lot of touring and gigs around the whole world, playing on big festivals, meeting interesting people and bands and having a lot of fun in our musical career.

-And back to reality, what lies ahead now for Cliteater this coming year ?

In April the REIGH IN THONGS split will be released by No Escape records, In may 2006 we are going to destroy Canada and the USA together with our buddies from ROMPEPROP. We are looking forward to it!! New songs probably are going to be recorded in August for the DAY EVERYTHING BECOME NOTHING split en also the new songs for the upcoming full-length. We also got an offer to go to Asia this year but we have to wait for that because we have to look for free days. There are still 2 students in the band and that is always the problem. Last but not least we are trying to play as much as we can this year.

-Well, not much more to come from me at this point, I won?t waste your cliteating time any further, except by thanking you for the time for doing this interview. Keep up the great work!

Thank you very much for the interview and interest in our music. Keep on going with the good work!
