dark side of Venus.
1)
Hi Licia, it’s a pleasure for me to
have this interview with you! First of all, can you introduce
yourself to all of our readers?
The
pleasure is mine. Hi readers, I’m Licia Missori. Pianist,
composer, and big cat lover.
2)
Licia, in your biography I can see that - despite your
youth - you had a lot of experiences and collaborations. What
drove you to believe that being a musician is not only a dream?
Making
music to me is a necessity, just like eating and breathing. If
this is only a dream, then my whole life must be a dream.
3)
Piano & Poems seem to be the essence of your life. Can
you tell us something deep, a dream, a vision that usually drives
you to write new compositions?
I
just... feel it. My subconscious starts writing songs, then I have
to accomplish the “mission”. We hold an endless universe
inside of us and the funniest thing is we’ll never know but a
damn small part of it.
4)
Your style is wrapped in romanticism and dark charming
velvet... not only music as I said before, you’ve published a
book of poems called “Dolce notte tossica”, can you
tell us about it? Is there an English version?
Unfortunately
not, my poems have been written in Italian and they have not been
translated. Writing poems to me is like vomiting my pain out. Some
kind of self psychotherapy. My book of poetry is the result of a
lot of troubles on my mind mixed with a desperate love for Beauty.
The result is quite extreme. But I still remember with a smile the
words that Steve Hewitt (ex Placebo drummer) told me when we
toured together: [looking at the cover of my piano album, “Amore
& Morte”] “Love and Death... well, that’s what it’s
all about!”.
5)
You published 3 solo albums. Can you describe them in a few
words, underlining the main differences among these works?
My
first two albums – “Flowered Emotions” (2002) and “Nuits
Blanches” (2003) – are my earliest works (I was 16 years old).
Most of those pieces were composed when I was a child, so they
sound really pure and naive, especially “Flowered Emotions”.
My third album, “Amore & Morte” (2009) is much more dark,
romantic, dramatic and mature. Actually I’ve already recorded my
fourth album, “Neverland”, which will be out hopefully soon.
It contains the three songs for which I’ve shot and published my
official videos: “Autunno”, “Neverland” and “Giardino
dei sogni perduti” (“Garden of the lost dreams”).
6)
Ok, let’s talk about music, and in particular about THE
DARK SIDE OF VENUS, a project with many influences, from
Gothic to Dark & Wave... What can you tell me about this
project?
The
Dark Side of Venus is my rock project. Just like me, it is
multifaceted and it can show many personalities. Since the day it
was born, Rock has been the best way to express one’s passionate
feelings, especially the wildest ones. This is what The Dark Side
of Venus is about: expressing my darkest and wildest emotions.
Playing with my bandmates is just awesome and liberating.
7)
Let’s talk about NEVERFLOWERS. What can you tell me about
them? I read that you won an important contest and you were
invited to play at YouBloom 2013 in Dublin...
Neverflowers
is my trio, composed of me (piano) and two other beautiful women,
Valentina Spreca (vocals) and Fabrizia Pandimiglio (cello).
We’ve been playing together only for one year and already we
have gained a lot of support and appreciation, we’ve been told
that we sound special and unique, so I couldn’t be happier about
how this marvelous adventure has started. Our music is actually
very original, combining pop melodic tunes with
classical-contemporary music, sometimes with inserts of poetry and
Mathematics or Quantum Mechanics references. Valentina and
Fabrizia are great artists and I’m delighted to collaborate with
them.
8)
Your videos are amazing, simple and essential but also full
of beauty, imagination and depth. Can you tell us something
concerning the making of these videos?
Music
can be very evocative sometimes – especially when it is
instrumental and no specific meaning is expressed. It can turn on
your fantasy and make you daydream. My videoclips are some of the
daydreams I made about my music. I worked with young but really
amazing directors, Paola Rotasso and Filippo Orrù. They perfectly
caught the essence of my imagination.
9)
Let’s talk about music & artists in general. Who is
your main inspiration? What are your favourite bands?
No
artist inspires me, I just play what my mind creates, it’s
always been so. My favourite bands are Depeche Mode, The Beatles,
The Cure, Garbage, IAMX and the early Muse.
10)
I see that
you’re involved with the bands mentioned above for
many live shows, which one is the band that represents you
and your “world” more
than the others, in this contest?
My
“world” is quite big. My bands represent different parts of
it. I couldn’t choose just one band because I would ignore the
rest of... me.
11)
Tell us how our readers can reach you on the web. Where is
your music available?
You
can find me on Facebook, SoundCloud, YouTube... just search for me
and I’ll be there! My first two solo albums (“Flowered
Emotions” and “Nuits Blanches”) are available on digital
stores. My third piano album (“Amore & Morte”) can be
