you maniacs that wanted to see us destroy Wacken

DIO, had been battling with stomach cancer since the end of 2009.
"As our tribute to the great man, we've revealed that the second
stage at this year's Download will official be called the Ronnie James Dio
Stage."
Writing on his Twitter profile, festival organizer Andy Copping said,
"The second stage at Download this year is to be renamed the Ronnie
James Dio stage as a tribute to the great man with the incredible

OBITUARY
Frontman: DIO 'was
One Of The Good Guys In Music And Will Be Greatly Missed' May 17,
2010
Vocalist John Tardy of Florida death metallers OBITUARY has released
the following statement regarding the passing of legendary heavy metal
singer Ronnie James Dio (DIO, HEAVEN & HELL, BLACK SABBATH, RAINBOW):
"OBITUARY would just like to say what a huge influence Dio was to
this band and to the face of metal! He was one of the good guys in music
and will be greatly missed!
"We had the opportunity, only once, to actually talk with Dio. He
came up to us and I was amazed that he even knew who OBITUARY were! In
that one, short conversation, it was clear what a kind person he was.
"We no longer have Dio here with us, but we
will have his music forever in our souls!"
R.I.P.
RONNIE JAMES DIO
Wendy Dio, wife/manager of legendary heavy
metal singer Ronnie James Dio (DIO,
HEAVEN & HELL, BLACK
SABBATH, RAINBOW), has released the following
statement to BLABBERMOUTH.NET:
"Today my heart is broken, Ronnie passed
away at 7:45 a.m. [on Sunday] 16th May. Many, many friends and family
were able to say their private goodbyes before he peacefully passed
away.
"Ronnie knew how much he was loved by all.
"We so appreciate the love and support that you have all given us.
"Please give us a few days of privacy to deal with this terrible
loss.
"Please know he loved you all and his music will live on
forever."
It was only a month ago that Dio, 67, spoke about
his battle with cancer with the Artisan News Service
on the "black carpet" of the Revolver
Golden Gods Awards, which took place on April 8 at Club Nokia in
downtown Los Angeles. When asked about how he had been feeling since he
was diagnosed with the disease late last year, Dio
said, "Well, I feel good and bad at times. It's a long process.
Chemotherapy is a... I never realized what a difficult thing it was to
go through. It's a real cumulative effect — the more you have, the
more it piles up on top and it takes longer and longer to get over it. I
find it very difficult to eat. I don't like to eat anyway, so I guess
that's OK. But I know I have to. But this makes it very, very hard. But
if you're determined to beat it, then you have to go with what you
believe is going to beat it for you, and in this case it's that. I go to
a great hospital in Houston called M.D. Anderson,
which I think is the best hospital in the world, I have the best doctor
in the world, Dr. Ajani, who I really trust and I
really believe in, so I think I've done all the right things. It makes
me feel positive about my life and positive that there is a lot more of
it to live."
Earlier this month, HEAVEN & HELL canceled
its summer tour plans in Europe due to Dio's
treatment for stomach cancer. The band said in a statement that Dio
wasn't "well enough to tour this summer. We hope that everyone
understands and want to thank fans and industry colleagues for their
continuing support at this time."
Born Ronald James Padavona in Portsmouth, New
Hampshire, Ronnie James Dio had performed with ELF,
RAINBOW, BLACK SABBATH,
and his own band DIO. Other musical projects
included the collective fundraiser "Hear 'n
Aid". He is widely hailed as one of the most powerful singers
in heavy metal, renowned for his consistently powerful voice and for
popularizing the "devil's horns" hand gesture in metal
culture. He was most recently involved with HEAVEN
& HELL, a project which also included former BLACK
SABBATH bandmates Tony Iommi, Geezer
Butler and Vinny Appice. Their first and only
studio album, "The Devil You Know", was
released on April 28, 2009.
In April, Dio appeared at the Revolver
Golden Gods Awards in Los Angeles to accept the award for "Best
Vocalist." As members of ALICE IN CHAINS
presented the award to him, the crowd chanted, "Dio!
Dio! Dio! Dio!"

ARCH ENEMY's previously announced U.K. tour,
which was scheduled to take place at the end of April, has been postponed
until later this year.
Commented the band in a statement: "Sorry to all our great U.K. fans,
but the tour we had scheduled for next week has unfortunately been
postponed 'till November 2010.
"As we all know, it's been a tough time in Europe with the volcanic
ash shutting down airspace in 23 countries and causing travel misery for
millions of people. One minute airports are open — the next they are
not.
"We are determined to make these shows work, but don't want to
disappoint our fans, so it has been mutually agreed upon that the best way
forward is to postpone the U.K. dates 'till November.
"We'd like to thank all of the promoters who took on the shows, and
also the support bands — everything was shaping up very nicely and their
professionalism is obvious. We appreciate their willingness to make these
shows happen later in 2010 and we're more eager than ever to do so.
"It's important to make it clear that this is not a cancellation —
we just have to move the tour to a different time.
"Sorry, again, to all who planned to attend. Hope to see you in
November!"
The new ARCH ENEMY U.K. dates are as follows:
Nov. 23 - Manchester, UK @ Academy 2

another band."
The organizers add, "OMEN will [now] headline the Friday [April 23].

PETER STEELE
Peter Steele, passed away on Wednesday, April 14 at
the age of 48. No official cause of death has yet been released, but it is
believed that Steele died of heart failure.
Back in 2005, many people were shocked when they logged on to the TYPE
O NEGATIVE web site and saw a gravestone with the words "[P]eter
Steele - 1962 - 2005 .... Free At Last" carved on it. According to
Epinions.com, there were rumors at the time that Steele was sick (with
anything from cancer to AIDS), was on his deathbed, attempted suicide ...
and the list goes on. It turned out that Steele was very much alive and
the gravestone was merely a joke.
Steele was born Petrus T. Ratajczyk on January 4, 1962 in Brooklyn, New
York. He stood 6' 7" (201 cm) tall, and had a low, bass-heavy voice,
which was one of the most recognizable features in TYPE O NEGATIVE's
music.
Before forming TYPE O NEGATIVE, Steele played for the metal group FALLOUT
and the thrash band CARNIVORE.

Jason Rullo of North America's progressive SYMPHONY X is
scheduled to enter the studio today (Thursday, March 18) to begin laying
down the drum tracks for the band's next studio album, tentatively due
mid-2010 via their new record label, Nuclear Blast Records. The band's
SYMPHONY X guitarist Michael Romeo recently stated about the group's new
material, "I put together some pre-production mixes for us to listen
to, and it's all solid.
"We have over an hour of really good stuff that we really dig;
there's more than enough stuff there that we can choose the best songs to
go on the CD... but all of the songs are really strong. And there are two
almost-done songs that we're going to try to wrap up in the next few days
as well. One is shaping up to be 10 minutes plus.
"It's really cool stuff that we gotta use.
"I think everyone will like it," Romeo concluded. "It has a
little bit of everything."

recording process for their new album, "Cursed", for an early
summer release via Century Media Records. The CD was tracked at .357
Productions with ION guitar player Antoine Lussier (who also produced
EMMURE's latest LP) at the production helm.
According to a press release, "Fans can expect a more refined and
streamlined approach that just goes straight for the jugular with a
frenetic assault of the band’s trademarked mathematic brutality."
SOILWORK
SOILWORK will embark on a North American headlining tour this summer
with San Francisco Bay Area thrash legends DEATH ANGEL. Joining them will
be Quebec's tech-death masters AUGURY, Roadrunner Records recording
artists MUTINY WITHIN, and pirate-themed thrashers SWASHBUCKLE.
Commented SOILWORK vocalist Björn "Speed" Strid: "We are
stoked to tour with the most vicious thrashers from the west, famous for
their gin drinking and intense live shows. DEATH ANGEL is a classic band
that we've wanted to tour with for a long time. A perfect fit for the bill
and surely an awesome touring companion. The summer of mosh is upon us.
Don't miss out!"
DESTRUCTION
Drummer Marc Reign has left German thrashers DESTRUCTION due to
"personal and musical differences" caused by "tour
stress," according to a statement released by the band. The group
adds, "Marc will concentrate on his rock project VOLCANO and wants to
keep himself open for other musical styles. He wants to thank all the
DESTRUCTION maniacs worldwide and the band for all the great fun and
support over all those years!"
All previously announced shows will go ahead with a replacement drummer.
DESTRUCTION is currently writing new material that will "go more back
to the roots," according to bassist/vocalist Marcel "Schmier"
Schirmer.
