ORACLE SUN: "Deep Inside"

Interview with Alessandro Cola

review  by Salvo "Lovedeath" Russo____

This album will not write any page of history in the  Power-metal, however I can advice it to all those Power metal fans who want to listen  well arranged songs

Oracle Sun are the new discovery presented by Scarlet . The debut album of this band  is titled "Deep Inside" and it's interesting to notice that this band is formed by important musicians in the metal scene: Frank Andiver on drums( already with Labyrinth!)  Emy Manuguerra (Angel Grace) on guitar, Val Shieldon (Sigma) on vocals, Fabrizio Marnik (Seven Gates) on keyboards, and Alessandro Cola (Mandragora Scream, Shining Fury) on bass.

The songs of this album are agreeable but nothing more. An about one hour of good Power metal, well arranged and with a fair production but the band must still to improve under the compositive aspect.

Good guitars riffs and a good rhythm are the support for a classic Power metal style that in my opinion seems nearer to that one made by North European bands; there are interesting ideas, which  at times aren't anyway supported by that typical groovy refrains, and are articulated without that touch of originality, so, in my opinion,  this album will not write any page of history in the  Power-metal, but however I can advice it to all those Power metal fans who want to listen energetic  and well arranged songs that remind of Labyrinth ("Return to Heaven denied" period) or classic Stratovarius style ("Episode" period), even if we're far from the inspirations of those masterpieces; this debut album must be the point of begin, indeed I wish to listen to a better second release.

I  underline  the instrumental track "Riding the Sun" that shows  the good qualities of the whole musicianship. A very good performance made in a classic Power Metal style.  And in  the last track of this album, "Stone Angel",  the band finds a good melodic refrain supported by the usual and perfect rhythmic session.

I underline the good performance of Fabrizio Marnik (Keyboards), that shows  very good ideas, moreover  the arrangements put in evidence his considerable work.

For the rest, a fair production makes this album nothing but an agreeable Power metal release in this begin of 2006.

rating: 7/10
