Modern Rock with a lot more edge to it

It’s like, modern rock with a lot more edge to it. That would be the best way to describe this band.

In their first track, “Better Man”, the good majority of the song is written and performed in the hard-core style of music. Monotone growling and punishing guitars make up the verses, but when the band goes into the verses, they make a complete u-turn and go modern rock. The vocals and guitars get very melodic, and not in a melodic death metal way either. It’s almost to the point of it sounding alternative in the choruses. The rest of that track, outside the verses and choruses, gets complex, almost to the point of progression.

However, the next two tracks tell a very different story. Both songs are very straight up and have a very uncompromising hard-core sound. These songs would appeal to almost all metal fanatics. Another thing worth pointing out is the constant changes in time in both songs. It would change to 4/4 time to 3/5 time then back to 4/4 time a few times during both songs.

Oversoul isn’t your everyday hard-core band. They have a hint of progression in them, usually found in bands like Children Of Bodom. The musicianship in this band is also extraordinary. Although they do not include guitar solos in the metal sense in their songs, one can’t help but to admire the drumming. The drums sound nearly perfect. Great snare sound, cymbal level is good, kick drum perfect.

They could pull off a good live show. This band has a lot to offer for all types of metal fanatics

Guitars are dead on, very very crunchy! The bass is hardly heard though, the vocals, mix-wise they come in great. However the, vocals aren’t that original, mediocre at best. Not bad by any means, they just stand out. I’d put the vocals in the same genre as Damage Plan’s vocals, adequate, but nothing spectacular.

Overall, it’s a decent demo, they sound like they could pull off a good live show. Might also be worth considering looking more into, it sounds like this band has a lot to offer for all types of metal fanatics.
