review  by Lisa "Blondie" Hieta-Larsson____

This is the Finnish powermetal band Stratovarius’s 11th and perhaps last album. I state this due to the fact that Timo Kotipelto (vocals) and Jörg Michael (drums) recently left the band and I see some question marks regarding their future beeing as a group because of this.

  Unfortunately “Elements part 2” represents absolutely nothing new in its genre. It’s all been done a hundred times before by groups such as Yngwie Malmsteen, Helloween, Edguy and others.

The sound of the album therefore seems a bit boring to me.

  It consists of 9 songs, of which two are ballads. In my opinion most of the songs lack soul and a deeper meaning. Take this line of lyrics from the ballad Liberty for example;

“Sun is shining, sky is so blue, I’m filled with hope”. The music in general is also quite simple.

  However there is one song I really like and that’s I walk to my own Song. It’s got a powerful melody with lots of positive energy, fast and heavy beating drums and nice guitar solos! I just wish the whole album would sound more like this one song.

The rest is mostly unimaginative and pointless. Though, if you’re really a fan of Stratovarius I don’t believe you will get disappointed since this is typically what they sound like!

Finally I hope that they soon will find a new singer who can cope with the falsetto tones better than Timo did.

Rating: 2/5
