Dualismo amore/odio.   English version

Band italiana nata nel 1995 in quel di Treviso,  gli And Harmony Dies sono un quartetto dedito a sonorità molto particolari e inusuali. Anche se la base può essere etichettata come Black Metal (con echi avantgarde), in realtà io la definirei come un progressive metal estremo con influenze che vanno dal Black al Death al Gothic, richiami al prog vero e proprio e una sorta di Teatralità che accompagna tutti i pezzi di questa loro nuova fatica uscita, ricordiamolo, per l’italiana My Kingdom Music.

Il punto di paragone che mi viene subito in mente inserendo il cd nel mio lettore è quello dei Norvegesi Arcturus. Forse per l’utilizzo delle tastiere o per l’impostazione vocale del singer che cerca (riuscendoci) di utilizzare tecniche diverse per donare quella profondità alle composizioni che in un genere come questo è di fondamentale importanza.

A questo punto molti avranno già finito di leggere la recensione in quanto certe sonorità atipiche, si sa, soffrono del classico dualismo amore/odio. Io non posso fare altro che dare un giudizio obiettivo dal mio punto di vista e dai miei gusti musicali che non hanno mai ben accolto certe sperimentazioni in quanto molto difficili da digerire. L’ascolto di questo disco, infatti, risulta molto impegnativo. Stare dietro a pezzi lunghi e articolati dove si fondono metal estremo, elettronica, gothic ecc… se da un lato puo’ essere (anche giustamente) considerata una mossa originale e coraggiosa, dall’altro puo’ alla lunga annoiare l’ascoltatore e non fargli mantenere salda l’attenzione sulla musica. Se poi il disco ha una durata di 76 minuti (con in chiusura la cover di At war with Satan dei Venom..di ben 20 minuti)…allora è proprio difficile stare dietro all’intero album senza qualche sbadiglio o senza comunque distrarsi e perdere la concentrazione.

E’ inutile a questo punto fare una dettagliata analisi dei brani di questo disco che comunque dai testi si può capire che si tratta di una specie di concept di natura filosofico/esoterica con tanto di personaggi chiave e dialoghi.

Non mi sento affatto di bocciare un disco che comunque trasuda passione per un genere musicale difficile da concepire ed eseguire. Capisco gli sforzi di questi musicisti alla ricerca di nuove sonorità e di originali basi liriche su cui intavolare i propri lavori. Ma per me il metal estremo deve trasmettere potenza, aggressività, cattiveria ecc.. Sentimenti difficilmente riproducibili con arrangiamenti pomposi, esagerate dimostrazioni tecniche ecc..

Dualism love/hate.

Italian Band born during 1995 in Treviso,  And Harmony Dies is a quartet devoted to a very particular and unusual sound. Even if the basic sound can be labeled as Black Metal (with  avantgarde echoes), in reality I would define their work as a progressive extreme metal with influences that go from the Black to Death and  to  Gothic; calls to  prog and a sort of Theatricality, that  marks all the pieces of this new work, released by the Italian My Kingdom Music.

The first analogy that crossed my mind, inserting the cd into my player, is that of the Norwegian Arcturus. Perhaps for the use of the keyboards or for the vocal formulation of the vocalist that tries (with really good results) to use different techniques to give to  compositions  a certain deepness that in a sound like theirs is of fundamental importance.

At this point many readers will already have ended to read this review because certain atypical sonorities, it's known,  suffer from the classical dualism hate/love. I cannot do anything else other than to give an objective judgment from my point of view and from my musical tastes that never have well welcomed certain experimentations because I consider these experimentations very difficult to be digested. The listening of this disk, in fact, results very demanding. To pay attention  to long and articulated lyrics where extreme metal is melted with  electronics, gothic etc… if , from one hand,  can  (also justly) be considered an original and brave movement, from the other one it can annoy the listener and does not help him to maintain his attention on the music. If ,then, the disk has a length of 76 minutes (closing with the  cover of At war with Satan of  Venom.. which lasts 20 minutes)…then is really difficult to pay attention to  the whole album without some  yawn or without however  lose the concentration.

It's all in vain, at  this point, doing a  detailed analysis of the tracks of this album  because all the lyrics,  obviously,  deal with a concept of a philosophical and esoteric nature with key characters  and dialogues.

I do not feel  at all  to reject an album that, however,  be transudes  passion for a musical genre difficult to conceived and to be performed. I understand the efforts of these musicians in the search to new sonorities and original mood  as  foundation of their work. But, for me,  extreme metal must transmit power, aggressiveness, wickedness etc..  all feelings that are hardly conveyable through pompous arrangements, exaggerated technical demonstrations etc..

I recommend this album to those who love  particular or avantgarde influences and  or to those people that desire however to discover an original and hard to be labeled band.
