After reading Katerina Sedy’s list (which was quite a feat
since I do not know German), I’ve decided to come out with my own
list of my favorite Valentine’s day tracks that I’m sure someone
will either get a kick out of, like, dislike, or downright send me
hate mail telling me how much of a buffoon I am for liking that type
of music. I deserve all of it! So, here we are in no particular
order:
-“This
Love” – Pantera. Truth be told it’s not a love song as much
as it is a song about obsession of someone and what that someone
thinks what love is. To put it simply, person A: thought they loved
this person, but it was a lie and is trying to figure out what love
is in the song, whilst person B: gets hurt. The song portrays the
pain of the realization of love in such a twisted way. Still a bad
ass song.
-“Safe
Home” – Anthrax. People can interpret this song anyway they
want, but I interpret it as someone finally finding the person they
are supposed to be with after a lot of heartbreak and that person
they finally find becomes their savior and soul mate.
-“Love”
– Delirium. Spoiler alert: It isn’t a metal song. I hand picked this
track for my wedding I loved it so much. It’s a softer song with a
good beat to it about a person professing their undying love for
someone. Still gives me goose bumps listening to it.
-“Black No. 1”
– Type O Negative. I’m not sure if this is a Valentine’s Day song or
a Halloween song, I’ll let you be the judge. However, with that
combination in mind as the ultimate gothic love anthem of my
generation, it had to be included. But then again, half of
October Rust should be on
this list but I had to pick one song from TON.
-“Magdalene”
– Moonspell. This song is a very sick and twisted love song with an
infectious beat to it. The lyrics are so good they’re comical, “Have
you ever loved a woman, who instead of give or trade would seduce
you with a trade.” Download this song now!
-“Only For The
Stars In Your Eyes” – Xandria. The duet with the singer of
Entwine made this song sound so awesome. I’ve reviewed this album
for gryphonmetal.ch when it came out and back then I thought this
was a good track and it has lasted the test of time.
-“Live In You” – To/Die/For – It’s kind of a shame
the band pretty much fell by the wayside over the years and “Live In
You” came out on their first album. But it’s another good gothic-emo
cheesy love song with the backdrop of great sounding guitars and a
great singer singing great lyrics.
-"Frühling in Paris" – Rammstein.
It sounds like a love song to me. Now, I don’t know all of the
lyrics to the track, but I get the just that it’s about two people
that were in love with each other, but they didn’t have a common
language, the relationship ended and he didn’t have any regrets. The
track always ranked in my top 10 Rammstein songs, it’s not as
controversial as the other songs they’ve made, but then again, maybe
that’s the appeal to me because it’s unlike anything Rammstein as
ever done.
-“Fly Me To The
Moon” written by Bart Howard but could only truly be
performed by Mr. Frank Sinatra. I’m not even listening to the song
and I get goose bumps. I prefer the live version at the Sands over
the album recording. This song was the feature song at my wedding
about a man’s love for his woman sung is such a classical manner.
There are over a hundred versions of this song out there, but Frank
Sinatra Live At the Sands is the best one. If there’s someone you
love in your life right now, whether they know it or not, download
this song too, play for them, and dance with them!
I’m sure there are other great songs out there
and these made my list. Moonspell, Type O Negative, To/Die/For, and
Rammstein have several other songs that are great and I might be
missing a few so make up your own list, make a mix for your mp3
device, and rock out to it all day today! Happy Valentine’s Day
everyone!
