DARKMOON

Darkmoon will be a part of a project of a Portuguese artist group ( Cristina Guerra from Lissabon )called: "Box sized die featuring Darkmoon". This project will be shown at the "Art in Basel" from June 2 until June 8 every day at six o clock in the evening. There, Darkmoon will be playing in a small closed cube until they are running out of air....

In this project Darkmoon will be supported by "Hubi" and Norman Lonhard ( Fear my Thoughts ) because Laurent has to be in Paris at this time because of professional reasons.

POSSESSED

Reactivated California death metal pioneers POSSESSED will film their June 22, 2008 concert at Europa in Brooklyn, New York for future DVD release. Also scheduled to appear are AT WAR, MORTICIAN, RUMPLESTILTSKIN GRINDER, BLOOD FEAST, SADISTIC INTENT, MIDNIGHT, MALKUTH and SACRIFICIAL BLOOD.

As has been the case with all of POSSESSED's recent appearances, the group's lineup for the Brookyln show will consist of sole original member Jeff Becerra (vocals) backed by members of California's SADISTIC INTENT.

TAPPING THE VEIN

Tapping The Vein have posted two new songs 'Complicate It' and 'Party Favours' on their MySpace and presented some of the artwork done by Travis Smith. These songs will be on the band's upcoming album 'Another Day Down' which will be released in the USA in July 2008 through Dancing Ferret Records. The label will also sell the album on Amazon, ITunes and their store Isotank.
European release dates are to be announced by Nuclear Blast.

DETONATION

Dutch death/thrash metal act DETONATION — which recently parted ways with drummer and founding member Thomas Kalksma — has issued the following update:

"After a couple of try-outs we found the perfect guy to help us out for the upcoming shows, namely Michiel van der Plicht (TOXOCARA, PROSTITUTE DISFIGUREMENT)! Michiel is without doubt one of the most talented death metal drummers in Holland, and a cool guy to work with! All shows that are scheduled for now will be played with Michiel on drums, starting with next Friday when we headline the Peppel in Zeist together with IZEGRIM. Many thanks go to Michiel for helping us out!! In the meantime we will continue our search for a new permanent drummer. So get in touch if you are interested!"

CATAMENIA

Finnish melodic black metallers CATAMENIA have parted ways with singer Olli-Jukka Mustonen.

Commented the group's guitarist Ari Nissilä: " The fear that something negative will happen turned into reality at Montreal [on our way to start our Canadian tour], when we realized that Olli, our lead vocalist, won't show up there. Unfotunately he missed his flight at Paris CDG airport, but we did hope that he could fly to Montreal next day with reserved ticket, but this never happened.

"Now, we had a nightmare staring us. We didn't came all the way to Canada just to inform that this is it, we can't do the tour. When the first shock was over, we start to seek the solution. Since I was doing vocals on rehearsals just for this kind of 'impossible situations,' we wanted to give a shot for it, so I'm going to do lead vocals.

So, the show went better than none of us dared to hope, and so did the second, the third and so on. People who were listening our concerts took me open minded as a lead vocalist... and... they liked what they heard.

"This misfortune led to conversation about the band's future. The solution is that the whole band wanted to me be as lead singer from now on. I am speechless about this and still try to get it in my mind what the hell is happening. One thing is sure… I will give that 110 percentage and my heart for this band, like I have done all the years I have lived with CATAMENIA. Now there is just more responsibility, but the train is very same, so is the man.

"Guys of CATAMENIA did everything that I won't break before the first show doing lead vocals. These guys trusted, helped and supported me the way that I still wonder how can I thank them enough. The pressure was so huge that I would never make it without these guys.

"Now after few days in home solving things in my head, I have one thing to say to these guys… This band is my family! You guys are the brothers I never had! I will do everything for you — without any doubt. Thousand thanks for you for your trust and support!

"For fans... We hope that you look this as a new page in CATAMENIA's path and be open-minded. We will guarantee you that with your trust and help, the triumph of CATAMENIA is just about to begin! WE WILL MANAGE, is our motto all together.

CATAMENIA will enter Mastervox Studios on July 7 to begin recording its new album, tentatively titled "VIII", for an October 2008 release.

DARKTHRONE

DARKTHRONE will release a three-CD box set entitled "Frostland Tapes" on June 23 via Peaceville Records.

For the past 21 years, DARKTHRONE has been one of the leaders of the black metal scene. To coincide with this anniversary, Peaceville Records will release "Frostland Tapes", a fascinating trip into the earliest years of the band and the first official release ever to contain all four of DARKTHRONE's demos in one place. "Frostland Tapes" also includes a rare live recording from Denmark in 1990 (one of only a handful of live appearances that DARKTHRONE has ever made) and, perhaps most significantly, the previously unreleased version of the infamous 1991 "Goatlord" rehearsal session. These songs were intended to feature on the proposed second album before the band changed direction and the tapes were confined to the vaults. Vocals were subsequently added in the mid-Nineties, but they are presented here as the recording sounded in 1991 — instrumental genius, showing the complexity and intricacy of a band with a great future ahead of them. The set comes in a rigid digibook featuring an interview with the band, chronicling their early days, ambitions and inspirations.

THY MAJESTIE parted ways with vocalist Dario Grillo last year due to personal differences. "It was a mistake to believe that with Dario Grillo the things might have run easily," the band stated at the time. "We already got it four years ago when there was some communication problem. And so it was after a hard struggle to make his mind up about our gigs in Holland we decided to leave him with his troubles that may have thwarted the smooth running of our work. Good luck to Dario. This time we're sure we won't get any relationship anymore."

METALLICA

METALLICA topped the bill for the annual "Weenie Roast" festival sponsored by Los Angeles radio station KROQ-FM. The show, which took place last night (Saturday, May 17) at the Verizon Wireless Amphitheatre in Irvine, California, also featured sets from THE OFFSPRING, THE RACONTEURS, RISE AGAINST, PENNYWISE, THE BRAVERY, SEETHER, SCARS ON BROADWAY and more.

BLINDED BY FAITH

BLINDED BY FAITH have announced the addition of guitarist Daric Grenier to the group's ranks. He replaces Daniel Gingras who played his last show with the band on May 16 in Trois-Rivières, Quebec.

BLINDED BY FAITH last fall posted its video for the song "The World Has Something To Offer" from the group's "Imperial Collapse" DVD. Watch the clip below.

The band's latest record, entitled "Weapons of Mass Distraction", was released in May 2007 via Galy Records. The CD was recorded at New Rock studios in Québec City with producer Yannick St-Amand (DESPISED ICON, BENEATH THE MASSACRE) to. Mastering duties were handled by Alan Douches (SHADOWS FALL, UNEARTH, NILE, HATEBREED, GOD FORBID).

ANAAL NATHRAKH

British extreme metallers ANAAL NATHRAKH have issued the following update:

"Owing to circumstances not related to the band themselves and entirely outside of the band's control, ANAAL NATHRAKH have been forced to pull out of their imminent Canadian shows at the 11th hour.

"To reiterate — this was not down to the band themselves, and if there was anything that could have been done, believe us, we'd have done it. Confirmation of this twist of fate's dagger only came through five hours before we were due to go to the airport.

"There is no reason why this should affect any other planned dates — ONLY THOSE IN CANADA. And rest assured, plans will be put in place for alternative Canadian shows as soon as possible.

"We offer our sincerest regrets to anyone who was intending to be at the shows, which at the time of writing will be going ahead with the support bands playing at a reduced door price. We are royally pissed off about missing the shows, but sometimes events simply conspire against you. Which will make it all the sweeter when the time comes to make the trip to Canada and both band and fans are able to raise a middle finger to fate and grind its corpse under their heels."

RUSH

Jason Ward of Q107 Classic Rock reports that John Rutsey, a founding member of Toronto rock band RUSH, passed away this weekend according to RUSH management company Anthem Entertainment. He was 55.

Rutsey was famous for playing on RUSH's 1974 debut album, including the song "In The Mood", before deciding to leave the group due to health concerns. Rutsey suffered from diabetes and was unable to go on extended tours with the group.

Rutsey was replaced by dummer Neil Peart, which marked a turning point in the band’s sound towards progressive rock.

Legendary Swedish death metallers GRAVE will premiere their new video for the song "Bloodpath" on May 15 during the band's CD-release concert at Pub Anchor in Stockholm, Sweden. The clip was reportedly filmed over a three-day period in Visby, Gotland, which is Sweden's largest island.

The Anatomy of Melancholy - 11th Apr 2008

On April 12th 2007, UK Gothic Metal pioneers Paradise Lost played a sold-out show at the Koko club in the heart of Camden, London to record a DVD. Fans and media from all over the world came to the beautiful Baroque style venue to celebrate a band that, 20 years since its conception in 1988, is still one of the most exciting bands of their self-defined genre.
Starting with the UK live debut of "The Enemy" from Paradise Lost's latest album "In Requiem" (which came out one month later), the set-list includes songs the band hadn't played live in a long time prior to that night, such as "Eternal" and "Gothic" from their 1991 album "Gothic", the rare B-side "Sweetness" from their 1994 "Seals The Sense" single and other classics from their impressive album roster. With a tracklist like this it's easy to win over the audience and be rewarded with enthusiastic feedback, but even the highly critical UK press were convinced by the band's honest and pure energy: "Perhaps it's simply due to the greatest hits nature of the show, but the band's output is given a continuity tonight somehow missing on previous occasions. To some extent, it's as though Paradise Lost have come full circle, now visibly comfortable with their various incarnations…" (Terrorizer, June 2007).
The live show was filmed and directed by Paul M Green and his Dash Productions team (who already worked with Opeth, The Damned, Gary Numan, Siouxie Sioux, and many more). Jens Bogren (Opeth, Katatonia, Amon Amarth, Symphony X, etc.) mixed the brilliantly captured live sound at Fascination Street Studios in Sweden, and the dark enchanting cover artwork was done again by Greek artist Seth who already worked on the band's last two album covers. LACUNA COIL 

LACUNA COIL have announced today that they will return to Australia this June for a run of headlining tour dates.

The band, which has spent the past several months writing songs for its forthcoming new album, will take some time away from their rehearsal room to play a series of headlining shows before hitting the recording studio later this summer.

These will be the first headlining dates for the band in Australia. LACUNA COIL has only been to Australia once before as a part of the Gigantour tour 2007 alongside MEGADETH, DEVILDRIVER and STATIC-X.

ZWARTE CROSS FESTIVAL 

BELPHEGOR, MERAUDER, ANIMAL ALPHA, NEMHAIN, EVERGREY and ELUVEITIE have been confirmed for the Zwarte Cross festival, set to take place July 25-27 in Lichtenvoorde, the Netherlands. This is the first year that the rock event — which is organized by the guys from Jovink en de Voederbietels (a Dutch group) — has a metal stage (de Metalweide). "Revelation VI" (cover artwork) is scheduled for release on May 30 via Massacre Records. The CD was recorded at Studio 301 in Stockholm and Sonic Train in Varberg and is the group's first to feature guitarist Joakim Ohlsson and vocalist Lisa Bohwalli Simonsson. Singer Marcus Ehlin previously stated, "Our first decision was to exclude the female parts in our music, but after hearing Lisa's voice, we changed our minds."

SOULFLY has set "Conquer" as the title of its new album, due on July 29 via Roadrunner Records.

SOULFLY members Max Cavalera (guitar/vocals), Joe Nunez (drums), Marc Rizzo (guitar), and Bobby Burns (bass) entered Porch Studio in Florida on September 12, 2007 to begin recording the band's sixth studio LP. Working titles for some of the 13 songs which were tracked include "Burndown", "Enemy Ghost", "Axis of Wrath", and "Blood, Fire, War, Hate".

A brand new KATAKLYSM track, "The Chains of Power", from the band's upcoming record, "Prevail", has been posted on the group's new and improved MySpace page.

Comments KATAKLYSM vocalist Maurizio Iacono: "The meaning behind the track 'The Chains of Power' is essential. It's a song the band wrote to give gratitude and strength to all the courageous soldiers who fight for our freedom. It doesn't matter if you are for or against certain wars, nor the bullshit politics that are associated with these topics.

"This track is about the people in the world that decide to take a chance with their lives in order to preserve our way of living. While we drink, rock out at concerts and take our daily lives for granted, some soldier is out there in the middle of a warfield dodging bullets and bombs. VELVET REVOLVER

VELVET REVOLVER founding members Slash, Duff McKagan, Matt Sorum and Dave Kushner announced today (Tuesday, April 1) that they are parting ways with singer Scott Weiland. "This band is all about its fans and its music and Scott Weiland isn't 100% committed to either," said Slash in a press release. "Among other things, his increasingly erratic onstage behavior and personal problems have forced us to move on."

Slash hinted in a recent interview that the band might carry on without Weiland, who announced onstage in Glasgow two weeks ago that fans were watching the "last tour" by the group. Weiland and drummer Matt Sorum proceeded to get into a public war of words online, fueling speculation that the band was splitting apart. But Slash told Classic Rock magazine, "Obviously I'm very aware of everything that's going on. The only thing I can add to that is, in contrast to what Scott says, there will be a VELVET REVOLVER after this tour." When asked if Weiland would continue as the singer, Slash added with a chuckle, "I have no comment on that."

Weiland is reuniting with his previous outfit, STONE TEMPLE PILOTS, which broke up in 2002. The group has scheduled a press conference in Los Angeles for April 7 where it will announce a full tour of 50 or more dates for the summer and fall in addition to the handful of festival shows already confirmed.

Finnish "fantasy metal" band BATTLELORE has entered Sound Supreme Studios in Hämeenlinna, Finland, with producer Janne Saksa to begin recording its fifth album, tentatively titled "The Last Alliance".

KAMELOT

"Rule the World", the new video from American/Norwegian melodic metallers KAMELOT, has been released.

KAMELOT guitarist Thomas Youngblood recently stated about the clip, "We were all floored by the final outcome. It was great to get back to Belgrade to shoot and hang out with the creative team there. The video will certainly be one if not the best video we have ever done. The graphics and visuals are amazing and it was fun to see my character on the screen this time as a bad guy."

Guitarist/vocalist Mille Petrozza of the long-running German thrashers KREATOR has issued the following update:

"A high-quality updated version of our VHS classics 'Live In East Berlin' and 'Hallucinative Comas' will be released on DVD for the first time ever! We're really excited to hear your reactions on this! We've put a lot of hard work, sweat and energy into this monster!

"Other than that, we're spending most of our time in the rehearsal room these days to prepare the new album! We have a five-track demo and two more songs writen. The writing [is going] really smooth, the new songs are made for a live situation and they all kill! No compromise but sheer thrash metal brutality!
