GOJIRA

Having completed more than 220 shows in order to promote the much acclaimed 'From Mars to Sirius' album, GOJIRA are now about to finish up the writing of their much awaited new full length to be released in Autumn 2008.

The band will lock themselves in the studio  from April to June.

The new and yet untitled album will include all new original material and will be released by French label  MONSLIP / WARNER in France and LISTENABLE Records and various licensors in other territories.

The band will immediatly embark on a series of major tours in Europe and throughout the U.S. right after the release.

KATAKLYSM

Canadian death metallers KATAKLYSM will film a video for the track "Taking the World by Storm" this weekend in New York. The clip will be directed by David Brodsky, who has previously worked with GOD FORBID, GWAR and STRAPPING YOUNG LAD, among others.

"Taking the World by Storm" comes off the group's upcoming album, "Prevail", which was mixed at AudioHammer Studios in Orlando, Florida with producer Jason Suecof. The CD, which is scheduled for release via Nuclear Blast Records on May 23 (Europe) and May 27 (North America), features guest solo appearances by Pat O'Brien (CANNIBAL CORPSE), Dave Linsk (OVERKILL) and producer and guitar shredder Jason Suecof himself. The band promises "a monstrous album that will pummel you from start to finish." Look for a brand new track to be debuted on the band’s MySpace page in the coming months!

KATAKLYSM recently unveiled the cover artwork for "Prevail", at this location. The band decided to "immortalize" the character that was featured on the cover of their last CD, "In the Arms of Devastation", and have him re-appear as the main character — dubbed "The Heartbeast" — on "Prevail".

Commented vocalist Maurizio Iacono: "We had so [much] killer feedback on the artwork but especially on the character that we decided to keep him as the band's fifth band member... kinda like IRON MAIDEN did with 'Eddie.'"

PAIN

Swedish metallers PAIN — whose members Peter Tägtgren (guitar/vocals), Johan Husgafvel (bass) and David Wallin (drums) were assaulted Friday night (February 22) in Leipzig, Germany during a day off on the band's European tour as the support act for NIGHTWISH — have issued the following update:

"First of all, this is the last [statement] that will mention last Friday's mishap. We've got a lot of messages and read tons of comments on the Internet. Some good, some bad. And we would like to point out that what happened has nothing to do with Germany. These fuckers that jumped us exist in every country. We were just at the wrong place in the wrong time. We never spoke to them so they couldn't have known that we were from another country. Right now we're just glad that things went so 'well' so that we can continue the tour. If we would have been sober or if we would have known that they were coming I'm sure that I wouldn't have been able to write this [message] right now. Thanks for all your nice coments, but as I wrote before this is behind us and now it's just almost full speed ahead. Everything tastes better with stitches!"

PAIN members Peter Tägtgren (guitar/vocals), Johan Husgafvel (bass) and David Wallin (drums) were assaulted Friday night (February 22) in Leipzig, Germany during a day off on the band's European tour as the support act for NIGHTWISH. As a result, the group was forced to cancel Saturday's concert in Leipzig, but the bandmembers quickly picked themselves up and were back on stage on Sunday.

"We did the best we could," Tägtgren said of the post-attack gig, according to Sweden's The Local.

"We were the wrong people at the wrong place at the wrong time," explained Peter, who required ten stitches for cuts to his face.

As it was their day off, the singer, Husgafvel and Wallin spent the evening at some local bars.

While they were walking down the street looking for a taxi, three men attacked them from behind.

"Sometimes things like this happen. We have no idea who they were, but it was really dodgy," Tägtgren told The Local.

The bandmembers, who were taken completely by surprise, were left severely beaten and bruised.

Afterwards a passerby recognized them and drove them to the hospital.

Husgafvel suffered a broken nose and Wallin, who was hit in the head with a wine bottle, ended up with concussion and stitches to the side of his head.

"The body gets a shock. Johan is full of kicks and bruises. David and I are dizzy as hell," Tägtgren told The Local.

CATARACT

Swiss metalcore act CATARACT has made a new song, "The Separation Of Life And Time", available for download at this location. The track comes off the group's self-titled fifth full-length album, which is scheduled for release in Europe on March 25 via Metal Blade Records. According to a press release, this CD is by far the band's most progressive to date, showing a lot more variety by adding a lot of brutality and speed but also more melody and heaviness. The massive production of Tue Madsen rounds off the package, which will be available in three editions: as a regular CD, as a limited-edition CD with a bonus disc (for which the band recorded a whole bunch of cover songs) and as a picture disc on vinyl (limited to 500 copies).

ICEAD EARTH + SPECIAL GODS OF METAL

Finalmente è arrivata la conferma ufficiale. Matt Barlow è tornato nella band. Matt è di nuovo il singer degli ICED EARTH e la band per festeggiare l'evento ha confermato una serie di esibizioni nei maggiori festival europei, tra cui anche il nostro Gods Of Metal. Il cantante che ha segnato capolavori come "Something Wicked This Way Comes" e "The Dark Saga" è di nuovo dietro al microfono degli ICED EARTH e il suo ritorno promette shows scintillanti. Ecco le parole di Barlow in proposito.

Sono sicuro che siete stati avvertiti di tutto ciò che sta accadendo in casa Iced Earth, credo che a questo punto un comunicato da parte miaè il minimo che possa fare. Mi scuso per il ritardo, ma almeno è per una buona causa! La scorsa settimana, dopo l’annuncio di Jon, mia moglie ha partorito il secondo figlio. Tutto bene, quindi, e chi di voi ha dei bambini può capire quanto le prime settimane siano difficili. In tutto questo tempo, dopo essermi riassestato fisicamente e psicologicamente, ho realizzato che ci sono molte cose nella mia vita che mi sento in dovere di comunicarvi. Come già sapete, la famiglia viene prima di tutto. Sicuramente Jon conosce e capisce i motivi che mi hanno portato a lasciare gli Iced Earth quattro anni fa. Avere una famiglia, per me e mia moglie, era un fattore molto importante. Ma la famiglia è stata la ragione del mio ritorno nella band, adesso. Perché c’è un legame che va al di là delle solite cose, ma ve ne parlerò più tardi.

Prima di tutto, voglio ringraziare il mio amico Michael dei Pyramaze. Se non fosse stato per la sua insistenza e perseveranza nel chiedermi di far parte della band, non avrei mai realizzato quanto fosse importante vivere all’interno della comunità metal. Dal lavoro fatto con la band in questi giorni, comunque, vi comunico che la mia partecipazione nei Pyramaze non andrà oltre la registrazione del nuovo disco. Sono sicuro che il successo dei Pyramaze non si baserà esclusivamente sulle performance individuali di ogni membro, ma nell’immagine complessiva del gruppo e per i brani che sono davvero eccellenti. Personalmente ho dato tutto me stesso per supportare i Pyramaze e per farli crescere.

Ora, tornando al discorso principale riguardante il legame fra me e gli Iced Earth. Io e Jon abbiamo trascorso la maggior parte delle nostre vite suonando una musica piacevole ma incazzata, triste e ispirata. Anche se il mio contributo era limitato, sono sempre stato orgoglioso di quello che abbiamo creato in ogni brano. Che fossero canzoni sull’amore, amici, fantasmi, diavoli o salvatori; i brani di Jon mi hanno dato il desiderio di viverli a livello personale. Nel momento in cui io e Jon abbiamo iniziato a parlare circa il futuro (positivo o negativo) degli Iced Earth il sentimento prevalente era quello di riscoprire la passione delle canzoni che hanno fatto degli Iced Earth una band speciale per tante persone. In questi ultimi miei anni, ho avuto il tempo di capire che ci sono ancora molte storie da raccontare. E, vi dirò di più, ho riscoperto la mia voglia di essere parte di queste storie. Come vi accennavo prima, ci sono momenti in cui occorre pensare alla famiglia, alla carriera e alla musica. Ognuna di queste cose deve trovare la giusta direzione.

Per quel che riguarda la mia carriera nel corpi di polizia, vi informo che continuerà normalmente. Senza entrare nei dettagli, io e Jon lavoreremo sulle registrazioni riguardanti il mio lasso di tempo fra il divorzio dalla band e il ritorno. Come vi ha comunicato Jon, il tour sarà limitato ma sarà una esibizione spettacolare. Faremo del nostro meglio per portare  il più  possibile il metal alle masse. Jon sa che questa decisione di limitare la vita on the road non è fantastica, ma sentiamo che è la scelta migliore per i fan nel lungo periodo. Qualcuno ci criticherà per questo, senza dubbio. Ad esempio ho saputo che ultimamente molte persone non gradiscono la polizia ;-) Vediamo se cambierete opinione!

Vi prometto che con gli Iced Earth eseguirò le migliori performance possibili: questo è sempre stato il mio desiderio e sono molto eccitato al pensiero di tornare a lavorare nuovamente con Jon e i ragazzi, per darvi il miglior metal possibile. Pronti attenti…VIA!

Long-running UK extreme metallers BENEDICTION will play a benefit show at their local bar, Scruffy Murphy's, in Birmingham on Sunday, February 17. Also scheduled to appear are LIFE DENIED and MUSTA TALVI along with three other local bands. This is a remembrance show for Ian "Wolfie" Smith, who passed away suddenly earlier this year. Only 200 tickets are available and they cost £5 (please bear in mind to get tickets as soon as possible as over 100 have been sold without advertising the show). First band will be on at 4:00 p.m. All proceeds go to Birmingham Children's Hospital.

BENEDICTION is scheduled to release a new album, entitled "Killing Music", later in the year. Songtitles set to appear on the CD include "Killing Music", "Dripping With Disgust", "Rats In The Mask (Controlopolis)", "They Bleed", "I Am The Betrayer" and "Dissembler".

THE BLACK DAHLIA MURDER, KATAKLYSM, VADER, CRYPTOPSY, WHITECHAPEL and five other bands will team up for the second Summer Slaughter tour, set to kick off June 20. Exact cities and dates will be announced soon.

New MEGADETH guitarist Chris Broderick (formerly of JAG PANZER and NEVERMORE) has issued the following update:

"Just finishing up some loose ends before I head out. I have 20 songs down and there are a few more I will learn while on the road. I love playing the solos to 'Hangar 18' and 'Washington Is Next!' and look forward to playing them on stage. I have been working on all the rhythms with Dave [Mustaine, MEGADETH mainman] who has a very meticulous ear which is a big help in getting the rhythms exact."

Broderick will make his live debut with MEGADETH on February 4 in Finland, where the group will kick off a long string of international dates which wrap March 14 in Bangalore, India.

German modern melodic death hopefuls FEAR MY THOUGHTS have issued the following update:

"It's a pleasure to announce that from now on, Rock The Nation agency, [which] also represents such great artists as WINTERSUN, SIX FEET UNDER, KATAKLYSM, THE VISION BLEAK and more, will be handling all future booking for FEAR MY THOUGHTS in Europe.

"On February 11 we'll enter the studio of our singer Martin [Fischer] to record our new album. It's the first time that we're recording an album on our own and we're a little bit excited. All songs are written and feel great and we can't wait to play them live for you. It will be a great mixture of progressive rock, smellin' rock 'n' roll and metal.

OBITUARY

OBITUARY bassist Frank Watkins has been forced to miss the band's last couple of shows in Europe in order to attend his grandmother's funeral in Florida. He is expected to rejoin his bandmates for Monday night's (January 21) concert in Rennes, France.

OBITUARY recently shot a video for the song "Evil Ways" with comic book stalwart and director Hart D. Fisher.

"Evil Ways" is the lead single from OBITUARY's new album, "Xecutioner's Return", which was released in North America on August 28 via Candlelight Records. The CD was mixed at Redroom Recorders and was mastered in June at Morrisound Studios in Tampa. The band once again worked with artist Andreas Marschall, who has previously created the art for "The End Complete" and the group's last record, "Frozen in Time".

Roadrunner Records has set a January 29, 2008 release date for a "best-of" collection from legendary Florida death metallers OBITUARY. Entitled, appropriately enough, "The Best of Obituary", the CD will feature the following track listing:

DIMMU BORGIR with BEHEMOTH and KEEP OF KALESSIN

Norwegian symphonic black metallers DIMMU BORGIR will return to North America as part of "The Invaluable Darkness Tour Part 2 – Legions Of The Chosen Few" headlining run with Poland's BEHEMOTH and fellow countrymen KEEP OF KALESSIN. The 24-show trek will launch on April 2 in Toronto, Ontario, Canada and will end on May 4 in Chicago. Drummer Tony Laureano will continue to handle drum duties, as the 2007 injury suffered by Hellhammer (also of MAYHEM) still has him sidelined.

Per motivi non dipendenti dalla volontà di Grinding Halt Concerti i The Enemy sono stati costretti ad annullare il loro primo tour europeo. Le date schedulate per il 16 Gennaio al MusicDrome di Milano e per il 17 Gennaio al Circolo degli Artisti di Roma non si terranno, ma saranno presto riprogrammate.

I biglietti acquistati verranno rimborsati a partire dalla prossima settimana secondo le regole dei circuiti di prevendita Ticketone e Greenticket, o in alternativa restano validi per le future date di Roma e Milano.

La band ha deciso a malincuore di annullare le date italiane e l’intero tour europeo a causa di un virus che ha contratto il cantante dei The ENEMY.

 SUFFOCATION comments on DISGORGE Bassist's passing 

Legendary death metallers SUFFOCATION have issued the following statement regarding the recent passing of DISGORGE bassist Ben Marlin:

"SUFFOCATION would like to share our condolences with DISGORGE and the Marlin family. Once again we've lost another brother in the death metal community prematurely. Ben Marlin, bassist of DISGORGE, passed away on January 2, 2008. SUFFOCATION will miss him greatly. We've toured and partied a great deal together. He was a true friend and supporter. Being in the genre and seeing so many of our close friends and musicians passing recently makes you realize that you can spend a lifetime fighting for death metal relevance and potential. He fought a hard battle, and definitely left his mark and impression on all those who knew him in the metal community."

Ben Marlin passed away on January 2, 2008 after nearly a year and a half of battling cancer.

DISGORGE released its fourth album, "Paralells of Infinite Torture", in May 2005 via Crash Music Inc.

 ATROCITY

Long-running German metallers ATROCITY have posted an audio sample of their cover version of the SIMPLE MINDS classic "Don't You (Forget About Me)" at this location. The track comes off ATROCITY's long-awaited new album, "Werk 80 II", which is scheduled for release in Europe on February 29, 2008 (March 4 in the U.S.). Like the first "Werk 80" release, which came out in 1997, "Werk 80 II" features ATROCITY's interpretations of hit songs from the '80s.
