Carnival in Coal
Second and third
albums reissued on single CD
After having re-released the cult debut
effort Vivalavida (with previously unreleased "Sramik" demo
as bonus) from French experimentalists CARNIVAL IN COAL at the end of
2005, Equilibre Music now reissues on one single CD the second and the third
album of the duet.
CinC’s French Cancan (1999)
displays some of the most surprising covers ever recorded, such as the
famous symphonic black metal version of Flashdance’s "Maniac"
hit single, as well as the lounge avatar of Pantera’s "Fucking
Hostile" (warmly greeted by the Abbott brothers themselves – RIP
Dimebag).
2001’s Fear Not Carnival In Coal
shows a more mature band with a more
oppressive approach of their
death/black/grind/groove/whatever-you-want mix of genres.
Both albums being out of stock for months,
this re-release coming in a luxurious digipack will allow anyone to get his
CinC collection now complete before the release of the band’s fifth album
awaited for Spring 2007.

Dissection
Jon
Nödtveidt comments on upcoming U.S. dates
Swedish metal pioneers
DISSECTION have announced the following live dates outside their final
European appearance on June 24, 2006 at Dissection Midsummer Massacre '06 in
Stockholm, Sweden:
Jun. 17 - Tel-Aviv, ISR @ Comfort 13
Sep. 01 - Los Angeles, CA @ House of Blues
Sep. 06 - New York City, NY @ B.B. King Blues Club & Grill
In a statement about coming to North America for the two shows,
singer/guitarist Jon Nödtveidt said, "We are very proud to finally
announce our first concerts in the U.S. in more than a decade. During all
that happened in the intervening years we were always determined to
return."
There is an update on the European show: The special limited ticket-pack
offer for the Dissection Midsummer Massacre '06 is still available with
ticket for the floor. Order your ticket from Dissection.nu
before May 31, 2006 and you get two posters, a DISSECTION
t-shirt and a DISSECTION Reaper sticker for free!
DISSECTION released their long-awaited new album, "Reinkaos",
earlier in the month on The End Records.
Escapi Music has set a July 28 European release date (August 1 in North
America) for the new DISSECTION DVD, entitled "Rebirth of
Dissection". With Jon Nödtveidt's release from an eight-year prison
sentence on September 6, 2004, he recruited a completely new lineup. First
to join the ranks was ex-DARK FUNERAL drummer Tomas Asklund, followed
shortly by bass player Brice Leclerq (ex-NIGHTRAGE). After auditioning
guitarists in the summer of 2004, ex-ABORYM member Set Teitan finally
entered to complete the lineup. Embarking on a vast European march of
triumph, supported by Swedish black metallers WATAIN, DISSECTION's
"Rebirth of Dissection European Tour 2004" turned out to be a huge
success. This DVD includes lots of extras and bonus material recorded from
this tour, and shows why the band are again at the top of the black metal
genre.
On June 27, 2006, DISSECTION's classic "The Somberlain"
and "Storm of the Light's Bane" albums will be reissued in the
U.S. by The End. The remastered CDs will come with multiple bonus tracks,
previously unreleased material and new layouts. All three DISSECTION albums
will also be released on gatefold vinyl this summer.

The
Amenta
Working
On Two New Releases
THE AMENTA
are currently in the studio working on two distinct follow-ups to 2004's
acclaimed "Occasus". From the multimedia/propaganda arm of THE
AMENTA comes an exercise in churning electronics, searing distortion and
factory ambience. To be released as an Internet release through
www.theamenta.com as well as an extremely limited DVD pressing complete with
manipulated visuals and binary code. And then the full-length follow up to
"Occasus".
"Occasus" was engineered and mixed by Lachlan Mitchell,
keyboardist for Australian black metal legends NAZXUL. The recording process
spanned five months from January to May 2004 and took place in many
different studios throughout Sydney, finally being mixed at the newly
refurbished BJB studios and mastered at Studios
301.

News from the Studio
Die vier Schweizer Death/Thrash Frickel-Freaks befinden sich aktuell mitten
im Aufnahmeprozess zu ihrem neuen Longplayer "Dawn of the Martyr".
stay tuned!

Working on their fastest album ever
For the last two weeks, Polish death
metallers VADER have been working at Hertz Studio in
Bialystok, Poland, recording their new album, tentatively titled "Impressions
In Blood". The bandmamebers have issued the following comments
regarding the process thus far:
Piotr Wiwczarek (guitar, vocals): "14 day of recordings at Hertz
Studio in Bialystok. We've prepared 11 tracks and a bonus track
which will be featured on the Asian version of the album. All the drum
parts have been already completed and...what can I say? You should
expect about 45 minutes of total carnage! The fastest VADER's
stuff ever, even a little bit faster than 'Litany' album!!!
Currently we are working on guitar sound and kicking off a pretty
arduous, but probably the most interesting part of the process, I mean
arranging our new songs and album as a whole. Impressions are going to
be very bloody!!!"
Daray (drums) summed up his work: "The band entered the
studio on 24th of [April]. First two days we spent on preparing
everything, soundcheck and so on. Then I started recording my drum
tracks which all in all took me 10 days... It's going to be the fastest
album I've ever recorded, you will hear there a lot of blastbeats and
fast double pedal drumming. This time for the recording I used OSCA 5B
drumsticks, TAMA Starclassic drumkit with Ludwig 'Black Beauty' snare
drum, Alchemy Professional cymbals, Aquarian Response II pads on toms
and Hi-Energy on snare, Roland RT-7K triggers, D-DRUM module and
finally, my current favourite thing — AXIS X-Longboards pedals which
helped me to achieve a staggering level of speed."
The recording session will last until May 24, after which VADER
will team up with DESTRUCTION and KATAKLYSM for a tour in
America. Simuntaneously producers Slawek and Wojtek Wieslawscy
will take care of mixes and mastering. The complete new album, featuring
artwork/ design of Greek artist Seth (ROTTING CHRIST, PARADISE
LOST) should be ready in the middle of July. "Impressions In
Blood" will be released through Regain Records on
September 4. On September 17, the band will kick off a huge European
tour which will run through December 20.

Symphony X
Bassist diagnosed with Crohn's disease; band cancel
European Festival dates
Progressive metallers SYMPHONY X
have been forced to cancel their previously announced European festival
appearances in June (Lorca Rock in Spain and Sweden Rock) due
to "severe illness."
Commented SYMPHONY X bassist Michael LePond: "I have been
diagnosed with Crohn's Disease (an inflammatory bowel disorder). This has
caused an obstruction in my small intestine, making it impossible to digest
solid foods. Currently, I am hospitalized where they can feed me through an
I.V. unit supplemented with a liquid diet.
"But, there is some good news. The doctors tell me that with a surgical
procedure, they will have me back to 100 percent in about six weeks, and
although it is a chronic disease, this procedure will make it much easier to
control its effects in the future.
"I want to thank the band, the crew, the fans and everyone else
involved for your understanding and support during this tough time. You will
all make my healing process much easier and I'll be back on the bass in no
time."
All "get well" wishes for Mike can be sent to getwellmike@symphonyx.com.
The messages will be printed out and sent to him until he's able to access
the mailbox himself.
SYMPHONY X are currently working on the follow-up to 2002's "The
Odyssey", tentatively due this fall. The band expect to return to
the road shortly after the release of the new CD.

The Kovenant
New demo samples posted online
Norway's THE KOVENANT have
uploaded a demo sample from their forthcoming album, "Aria
Galactica", at this
location. The three-minute instrumental recording contains a
few previews from some of the songs combined into one MP3 file.
THE KOVENANT mainman Nagash (a.k.a. Lex Icon; real
name: Stian Arnesen) had previously stated that the follow-up to
2003's "S.E.T.I." (Search For Extraterrestrial
Intelligence) would be "the most exciting, surprising, energetic and
accomplished KOVENANT record so far. Again, this will be a drastic
detour from our ever-so-unpredictable path, and our ideas are set to fill
you with wonder and amazement. Old fans, as well as more recently acquired
listeners will certainly find this to be a very characteristic KOVENANT
record, and we are most pleased to say that with our emerging creation, we
will reclaim our position as a force of innovation and aspiration, not
just for ourselves, but for the entire scene."
"Aria Galactica" is tentatively expected before the end
of the year.
THE KOVENANT are also working on a DVD containing footage spanning
the band's entire career.
THE KOVENANT's current lineup includes RAM-ZET drummer Küth
and APOPTYGMA BERZERK keyboardist Geir Bratland.

Exciter
Vocalist JACQUES
BELANGER quits EXCITER again
For the third time in 10 years, vocalist
Jacques Belanger has left the Canadian thrash metal pioneers EXCITER.
"Due to 'differences of opinion' on many issues between Jacques
and the rest of the band, he felt he could no longer continue as vocalist
for EXCITER," reads a statement from the group.
"We are currently exploring our options but, we have, regretably, had
to cancel shows in Europe, the USA and Canada that we had scheduled or
been working on for this summer [including the Minneapolis Mayhem 3
festival in August].
"The writing for the new CD is complete and we have 10 new songs to
record, but we'll have to find the voice to sing on these ripping new
tracks first.
"EXCITER would like to thank all the die-hard fans, throughout
the globe, who have supported us for many years."
EXCITER's latest CD is "New Testament - Coven of
Re-Recorded Classics", a collection of reworked early songs which
was released in June 2004 through France's Osmose Productions.

Crisis
Going on indefinite hiatus
Los Angeles-based band CRISIS have
issued the following statement:
"All of us in CRISIS would like to let our very faithful and
diehard fans know that the band is going on an indefinite hiatus. We are
sorry that our fans will not be hearing any new music from us in the near
future. CRISIS has had a long and fruitful life thus far. Therefore,
we dont feel the need to justify our decision specifically. The band members
will be focusing on their personal lives, as well as pursuing other artistic
interests. In the meantime we strongly urge our fans to support original and
honest artists and their music; a lot of them can be found on The End
Records roster.
"We would especially like to thank our dedicated fans the world over
for sticking so closely with us over a span of 12 years and more. We would
also like to thank Andreas Katsambas and The End Records crew
from the bottom of our hearts for all their support. If CRISIS ever
thinks about releasing another album it would be a pleasure for us to work
with The End again."

Legion of the Damned
Announce new bassist
Dutch thrashers LEGION OF THE DAMNED
(formerly OCCULT) have posted the following message on their official
web site:
"During our last tour, bass player Twan Fleuren left the band
because of family matters. After having spoken with Twan, we all
decided that it was best for him to focus on his family and leave the band.
Within no time we found a new member in Harold Gielen, who
complements the band perfectly. He also plays the guitar in MANGLED
and INHUME. Harold already joined LEGION OF THE DAMNED
on the last day of the tour at the 013 venue in Tilburg and you'll
definitely be seeing more of him in the future. We wish Twan Fleuren
all the best in life and we welcome Harold Gielen to our
line-up."

Into Eternity
Part ways with guitarist Rob Doherty?
Canadian INTO ETERNITY appear to
have parted ways with guitarist Rob Doherty. The band are currently
opening for GAMMA RAY on two U.S. dates with the help of a
replacement guitarist, who was apparently recruited without Doherty's
knowledge.
In an April 30, 2006 posting on the band's official forum, Rob
wrote, "I have moved from Regina after our last tour 'cause I needed
to work. I had three songs written for the next disc and a bunch of riffs Tim
[Roth, guitar/vocals] and I worked out. I had been waiting for
these shows and for some sort of solid confirmation. This never happened.
I flew home and gave the band the gear from my house and all seemed fine.
The next thing I know the band has a replacement for me...
"I have given all to this band for two years with the promise of
becoming a full-time member business-wise. I guess what I'm sayin' is if I
am to be a hired gun then I need to be paid. I cannot pay my bills on the
hopes that everything will just work out. I cannot rely on 'IF we sell
merch' as a form of payment....
"I did this for two years and proved that I am into it. I play my ass
off every night as hard as I can and love it!!! But the fact is we are on
the road a lot and if we are gonna be out that much, there needs to be a
buisness plan to look after shit back home."
Upon their return to Canada later this week, INTO ETERNITY will
continue pre-production for their fourth album, which they will once again
be recording at Touchwood Studios in their hometown of Regina,
Saskatchewan, Canada. Original drummer Jim Austin has signed on to
play on the new record, which will be mixed by acclaimed producer Andy
Sneap (NEVERMORE, ARCH ENEMY, EXODUS).

continue to grow over time as more information is gathered, but most of the
information on the old site has been transferred to the new site.
We are also happy to announce that Angtoria now have a complete line up!
John Henriksson from the band My Own Grave, who did an excellent job behind
the drums in the video despite getting only a couple of days notice to
practice and learn the song, has been added to the band, as well as Dave
Pybus who participated both on the album and in the video.
In the "Diaries" section we´ve added a detailed videodiary done
by Sarah.

Candlemass
CANDLEMASS frontman MESSIAH MARCOLIN quits
CANDLEMASS
vocalist Messiah Marcolin contacted BLABBERMOUTH.NET today
(April 28) to reveal that he has left the Swedish doomsters and that it's
100 percent definite that he will not return. "We could not agree on
how to do the new album," he said, but would not further elaborate on
his sudden departure.
Marcolin spent the early months of 2006 recovering from an infection
of the vocal cords and was ordered by his doctor to wait until this summer
before resuming singing.
CANDLEMASS recorded four new songs with producer Andy Sneap (NEVERMORE,
ARCH ENEMY, MACHINE HEAD) in late February at the new Polar
studios in Stockholm, Sweden. At the time, the group's bassist/songwriter Leif
Edling said of the material, "The songs are pretty much in the same
vein as the stuff on the [self-titled 2005] reunion album, maybe a bit
darker."
CANDLEMASS won a Swedish "Grammy" award in February
in the "Best Hard Rock" category, beating out the likes of HAMMERFALL,
HARDCORE SUPERSTAR, MESHUGGAH and OPETH. The Swedish
doom legends were honored for the "Candlemass" opus, which
is available on Nuclear Blast Records. Five back-catalog items from
the band — "Epicus Doomicus Metallicus", "Ancient
Dreams", "Doomed for Live", "Nightfall",
and "Essential Doom" — were issued in the U.S. via Candlelight
in February.

Into Eternity
New album to be mixed by ANDY SNEAP
Canada's technically progressive death
metal band INTO ETERNITY will head out for three upcoming East Coast
dates before recording the follow up to 2004's "Buried In
Oblivion". Commenting on the band's upcoming plans,
guitarist/vocalist Tim Roth said, "Things are starting back up
for us. First up, we will play three shows in the U.S. starting with the New
England Metal And Hardcore Festival Sunday, April 30. May 1 we are in
New York City and May 2 in Springfield, VA, both dates opening for GAMMA
RAY. Hopefully we will get a chance to say hello to you all at these
upcoming dates. As soon as we return to Canada we continue pre-production
for album number four. Once again we will be recording in our hometown
Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada at Touchwood Studios. We have original
drummer Jim Austin with us on the new record and he's has been doing
a great job in rehearsals.
"There will be one recording change with this album, for the first time
we are going to send the album out to be mixed. Andy Sneap (NEVERMORE,
ARCH ENEMY) will be handling the record's final mix. We are fans of Andy's
work and know he is the right man. This final step ensures that this will be
our best sounding effort to date."
INTO ETERNITY spent 2005 touring North America supporting the release
on no fewer than six continent-spanning tours. Look for the band to tour
extensively in support of the new album late this year.

Slayer
Confirmed for U.K.'s READING and LEEDS festivals
SLAYER
are among the latest names to be added to the bill for the Carling
Weekend: Reading and Leeds festivals, set to take place
August 25-27 at Reading's Richfield Avenue and Leeds' Bramham Park in the
United Kingdom. Also confirmed for the summer event are AUDIOSLAVE, PEARL
JAM and MY CHEMICAL ROMANCE, among many others. More information
is available at NME.com.
SLAYER — Tom Araya (bass, vocals), Kerry King
(guitars), Jeff Hanneman (guitars), and Dave Lombardo (drums)
— have finished recording tracks for their as-yet-untitled new album, due
out this fall, and have commenced the mixing process. This album is the
first new studio album since 1990's "Seasons In The Abyss"
that features the entire original SLAYER lineup (drummer Lombardo
left the band in 1992 and rejoined in 2003). Rick Rubin, who helped
solidify the much-emulated SLAYER sound beginning with their
genre-defining 1986 classic "Reign In Blood", is
executive-producing, and Josh Abraham (KORN, VELVET
REVOLVER, ATREYU) is producing. Working songtitles include "Catalyst",
"Cult", "Catatonic", "Jihad",
"Eyes of the Insane", "Supremist", and "Consfearacy".
The SLAYER-headlined "Unholy Alliance Tour - Preaching to the
Perverted" will kick off on June 6 in San Diego, CA. The seven-week
trek boasts what has got to be the genre's coolest line-up — joining SLAYER
will be LAMB OF GOD, MASTODON and CHILDREN OF BODOM
(who will rotate the second and third slots), and THINE EYES BLEED,
who will open the shows.

Kataklysm
Explain European Tour cancellation
Canadian death metallers KATAKLYSM
have issued a statement explaining their decision to pull out of the
remaining dates on the BOLT THROWER European tour. It reads as
follows:
"KATAKLYSM have been forced to cancel the remainder of the
Euro tour with U.K. death metalers BOLT THROWER for reasons beyond
the band's control that have to be dealt with back home. The band would
like to add that they had a great time and the tour was a complete success
and the strongest for KATAKLYSM ever. The band would like to thank CANNIBAL
CORPSE and BOLT THROWER for the great opportunity to tour with
these great bands. All the shows missed after Saarbrücken, Germany will
be rescheduled in September as KATAKLYSM is planning their
headlining tour for the fall in Europe. Also big apologies for the missed
Helsinki show but I'm sure the fans will understand that when you board a
flight that says Flight 666 To HEL (abbreviation for Helsinki) and get
barely get there on time and lose all your guitars and equipement and
luggages (still haven't found Maurizio's a week later!), it's hard
to play the show. We will make it up as soon as we can! We will also post
the ticket stub of that flight 'coz is a classic!!! All Metal Crusaders
dates will not be affected by this in the States."
KATAKLYSM's "Metal Crusaders Tour 2006" with VADER,
DESTRUCTION, GRAVEWORM, SPEED\KILL/HATE and THE
ABSENCE will kick off on May 26 in Montreal, Quebec.

The Dillinger Escape Plan
To tour with AFI
THE DILLINGER ESCAPE
PLAN have posted the following message on their official web site:
"So yeah that's the skinny. AFI. DEP. The AFI/DEP
tour will be major North American cities. We will be playing headlining
shows on the off dates of that tour in places like Bumblefuck, Nebraska,
and we also have two festival headlining appearances right before the AFI
tour. Every date will be announced soon, we're just getting shit
finalized. This is gonna be fun. We have been friends with the AFI
guys for a while and haven't played with them since Krazyfest 2002
when they played right after us in front of the Ohio river. Anyone
remember that shit? Crazy times. We have been home for five months now, by
then it will be close to seven, and we are fresher than a Coke slurpee in
July and itching to get back to slaughtering in a live setting. After this
we will get back to writing. We also have a couple of other surprises in
store for June that will be announced soon, and who doesn't like
surprises? Not the 'Oops I shit my pants' kind, the good kind. So
yeah...dates soon."
THE DILLINGER ESCAPE PLAN are currently writing material for the
group's fourth studio LP, the follow-up to 2004's "Miss
Machine". Two DILLINGER DVDs are also in the works: one
featuring pre-"Miss Machine" material and videos and
another filled with footage captured during the making and touring in
support of "Machine".

Angtoria
ANGTORIA, the
new Swedish/British orchestral/metal band formed by female singer Sarah
Jezebel Deva (CRADLE OF FILTH, THERION, MORTIIS),
composer Chris Rehn (ABYSSOS) and Tommy Rehn (MOAHNI
MOAHNA), have finished filming a video for the track "God Has
A Plan For Us All" with up-and-coming, award-winning Swedish
director Måns Berthas.
Commented the band: "The video shoot went really well, and the
director Måns Berthas and the extremely talented and devoted crew
he put together did a truly amazing job! The video was filmed in two
locations, a very impressive and beautiful church (Njurunda Kyrka) and an
abandoned deteriorated building, over a three-day period and due to the
lyrical theme of the song it was filmed as a 'short movie.' It contains
footage of as well the band as Chris' 5-year-old daughter Saga
who played the child, Toni Davey (wife of Dani Filth in CRADLE
OF FILTH and covergirl on the album) who played the child as a grown
up to a 35-piece church choir and a priest played by Pierre Ragnehag!
There were three long and very hard days for all of us, but the result was
well worth the effort. Now the task of editing the video starts and
release date will be when it has been finished edited, which will roughly
be by the end of May."
Check out pictures from the video shoot at this
location.
"God Has A Plan For Us All" is the title track of ANGTORIA's
debut album, which is being released in Europe this week via Listenable
Records. The mixing process for the CD began on January 14, with
acclaimed producer Daniel Bergstrand (IN FLAMES, SOILWORK,
MESHUGGAH, DEVIN TOWNSEND, STRAPPING YOUNG LAD, BEHEMOTH)
stepping in during the initial phase, and Tommy and Chris
completing the mix at Sidelake studios with Micke Öhlén.
The mastering was finished February 14 at the Cutting Room in
Stockholm by Björn Engelmann, who has previously worked with RAMMSTEIN,
IN FLAMES, SOILWORK, DIMMU BORGIR and WITHIN
TEMPTATION, among others. The initial cover
concept/idea was developed by Sarah. The CD will be available in
two versions: a standard jewel case version and a digipack version with a
bonus track.

Gorgasm
Chicago-based death
metallers GORGASM have issued the following update:
"After adding the missing piece to the lineup, Tomasz Pilasiewicz
(DISINTER, CORPHAGY, UNDERCURRENT) on drums, GORGASM
has been on a 'destruction roll,' crushing stages across many states and
European countries. Last week, the gore-gods have entered Studio One
in Racine, WI to record a demo which will help the band secure a new
recording deal for their future releases. The demo will consist of brand
new tracks 'Destined to Violate' and 'Visceral Discharge',
which are the basic definition of brutality, technicality, catchiness and
unmerciful speed. One of the songs will soon be posted on www.myspace.com/gorgasm2,
so everyone can get a taste of what's coming later this year...
"'Kuntkiller' is the working title for GORGASM's new
album. It will be about 40 minutes long and will include a video for one
of the songs. Some other songtitles for 'Kuntkiller' are 'Erotic
Dislimbing', 'Sadistic Bliss', 'Submissive Repugnancy'
and 'Contemptious Debauchery'. Also, later this year, due to the
huge demand, the band is planning to re-release their first album/EP, 'Stabwound
Intercourse', which has been out of print for at least for the last
four years. As a bonus, GORGASM's first, never-before-released demo
from 1996 will be included on that disc."

Backyard
Babies
Abacus Recordings
has set a May 6 North American release date for the new BACKYARD
BABIES album, entitled "People Like People Like People Like
Us". Produced by Nicke Andersson (guitarist/vocalist of THE
HELLACOPTERS and former ENTOMBED drummer), the Swedish
band's CD is said to be "a celebration of all that the BABIES
have been known for while giving listeners a few new sonic treats in
the process."
Commented the band in a press release: "It's a more dynamic
album with a more modulated sound where Nicke Andersson
taught us how to 'play together' but at the same time it was his
restlessness that gave the album its honest and simple sound. We
wrote more intense and under a shorter period than ever before. A
challenge that proved to be just positive since you don't have time
to analyze everything to pieces."
You can listen to samples of the entire album and check out a
preview of the first video, "The Mess Age (How Could I Be So
Wrong)", on the brand new BACKYARD BABIES web site: www.backyardbabies.com.
Known as real road dogs, the BACKYARD BABIES will go on tour
right after the album release, first hitting Scandinavia and the
rest of Europe during spring and summer, and then making their way
to the United States, Japan, and Australia in the fall.

Lordi
Dan Bilefsky
of the International
Herald Tribune recently spoke to LORDI singer and
namesake about the uproar crated in their home country after the
band was chosen to represent Finland at Eurovision, the
European song competition that launched ABBA and CELINE
DION.
First, Finnish religious leaders warned that the Freddie Kruger
look-a-likes could inspire Satanic worship. Then critics called for
President Tarja Halonen to use her constitutional powers to
veto the band and nominate a traditional Finnish folk singer
instead. Rumors even circulated that the five members of LORDI
were KGB agents sent by Vladimir Putin to destabilize
Finland before a Russian coup and that explained why they refused to
take off their freakish masks in public.
The backlash migrated to Greece, winner of last year's Eurovision
and site of the next contest, in Athens in August. An anti-LORDI
movement called Hellenes urged the Finnish government to
"say 'no' to this evil group." One young Finn calling
himself Suomi (Finland in Finnish) wrote to a newspaper blog saying:
"If LORDI wins Eurovision, I am leaving the
country."
The lead singer, Lordi, a former film student who goes by the
name Tomi Putaansuu when not wielding a blood-spurting
electric chainsaw, is philosophical about the uproar.
The affair, he says, has exposed the insecurity of a young country
whose language is spoken by only six million people worldwide and
whose sense of identity has been dented by being part of the Swedish
kingdom and the Russian empire until gaining independence in 1917.
Most Finns, he adds, would rather be known for Santa Claus than
heavily made-up monster mutants.
"In Finland, we have no Eiffel Tower, few real famous artists,
it is freezing cold and we suffer from low self-esteem," said Lordi,
who has horns protruding from his face mask and sports black
fingernails 15 centimeters, or 6 inches, long.

The following description of the box set's contents has been released by Black
Mark:
"A unique work, exhaustively and respectfully assembled in remembrance
of the legendary founder of death metal and viking metal. For an entire year
Boss collected and went through so much material that it took months
until the project truly began to take shape. Boss used as much of Quorthon's
original material as possible — including his layouts, text and notes
taken from the posted and unreleased material he left. The artwork: Painted
by Kristian Wåhlin who closely followed Quorthon's concept
for a new BATHORY album cover — even if the new album itself was
barely outlined at the time. Kristian began working on the new cover
in late spring 2004, only weeks before Quorthon unexpectedly passed
away. The painting Kristian gave us meant so much to Boss that
he decided to use it for the memorial shirts and, of course, as the box sets
cover art. The CDs: Boss personally selected the songs for the three
CDs, which feature four of the finest hours of BATHORY and the great Quorthon.
When choosing the tracks, Boss kept in mind Quorthon's
favourites, so you can be sure it is a compilation first of Quorthon's
favourites, and of Boss — selected from a very strong and diverse
catalogue. In addition, you will hear BATHORY and Quorthon
recordings you probably didnt even know existed. All music was remastered
especially for the box set. The book - 176 pages. Only in the memory box
set. Text written by Quorthon personally appears in italics. Besides
lyrics, the book features BATHORY's history, discography, background
on the first recordings — with titles, years, studios, covers — and even
a couple of photographs. Nearly all of this is from Quorthon's and Boss'
own private archives. By popular demand, the DVD contains the first official
commercial release of the legendary 11-minute video for 'One Rode To Asa
Bay', as well as the MTV interview Quorthon did in London
for the release of 'Hammerheart'. The poster: Quorthon's fire
breathing."
Quorthon was found dead in his
apartment in Stockholm, Sweden on June 7, 2004. The 39-year-old, widely
considered to be one of black metal's founding fathers, reportedly died of
heart failure.

Destruction
DESTRUCTION
frontman Marcel "Schmier" Schirmer has issued another
comment on the band's ill-fated April 15 concert in Ecuador which was
called off after the group announced that they would not play the show due
to insufficient lighting inside Quito's Miami Rock Concert venue.
According to a report published in Monday's (April 17) edition of the
Quito-based daily newspaper El Comercio, about 60 of the 600 fans
in attendance reportedly began destroying the venue after hearing that the
band would not be going ahead with the concert. Concerned about the damage
being caused to the equipment at the Miami Rock Concert hall, the promoter
allegedly offered to pay DESTRUCTION an additional $1,000 above
their previously agreed-upon fee in order for them to reconsider and
proceed with the show. However, according to a source cited by El
Comercio, Schmier refused the offer and the gig did not go
ahead.
In a message sent to BLABBERMOUTH.NET earlier today, Schmier
said the following:
"Hey, this ain't funny. To avoid more rumours, here are the plain
facts that led to the the cancellation of the show in Quito/Ecuador on
[April 15].
"Ecuador disaster part three — the facts:
"To finish the discussion about the Ecuador show problems, here are
the straight facts that led to the cancellation:
* The promoter didn't provide a proper workin' visa for the band and their
crew. So
playing the show would have been illegal by Ecuadorian law!
* The promoter has agreed on 'so-called' technical riders and signed
contracts but ignored those facts when the band was in the country. Breach
of contract!
* The promoter has tried to blackmail the band to play the gig by
threatening them with enraged fans — an unprofessional and
[unacceptable] behaviour!
* The [lack of security] of the rammed up venue, crowded with far too much
people, (there was hundreds outside that wanted to enter the venue!) was a
big risk for everyone involved.
"Under those circumstances, the tour manger was forced by law to
postpone or to cancel the event. The promoter did NOT react to pull the
show to the next day, or finding solutions. The ONLY logical consequence
was to cancel the gig!"
