INTRO

Not even one year has passed from the last time Paradise Lost visited Greece during their European tour and after their huge success of their previous concert here, the promoters decided to bring them again and guess what?It was a success again!

Two shows in Athens and one in Thessaloniki: all shows almost sold out in venues that could hold up to 1500 people.

NIGHTFALL

Nightfall were announced as the support, a band that has a long time experience in the Metal scene, they exist from the early 90's and they are surely among the best Greek bands. They have a discography of about ten years and they released a brilliant new album called 'I am Jesus' which all fans must hear.

Many poeple went to the show to see Nightfall because they had an absence from live performances for about two years after a successful appearance at Wacken 2000.Nightfall played 2 brilliant shows in Athens supporting Paradise Lost but for a reason i am not aware of, they cancelled the Thessaloniki show! I couldn't believe it ! because i have been trying to see them live for the past four years and always something's happening and i lose them!!

PARADISE LOST

Let's get back to Paradise Lost who managed to fill up Ydrogeios very easy and to prove (to the promoters mainly) that Greek fans are crazy for Paradise Lost and they have a big fan base here. Although they have gone a bit far from their original sound of the first album the fans follow them and support the band on every release which is something i find really cool.

The show was about to start at 8:00 with Nightfall but, due to their cancellation ,i don't know why but Paradise Lost hit the stage at 10:00 letting as all wait for more than 2 hours. At the time the band opened with Isolate everyone forgot the 2 hour waiting. It was a great opener but the sound was not the best we could get. Greg Mackintosh drew my attention with his new look who has grew his hair longer and Holmes as well didn't have as short hair as last year. Maybe they are growing long hair like the old times and get back to their root sound?? Who knows!?(Although i highly doubt about that...).Nick told us about the new album that it will be ready until March 2004 after Isolate.

Once again i can't remember the correct order the songs were played but here's a list of what they performed that night:As I Die,Mystify,Perfect Mask,Symbol Of Life,Say Just Words,Mercy,One Second,Shadow Kings,Ember's Fire,True Belief,So Much Is Lost.

I really enjoyed this set list,i am huge fan of their recent albums especially Symbol Of Life and they did much material from this album. I couldn't ask for more from the set list (maybe the whole album live?!..just joking!).The thing that i would like in this show would be if the sound was much better. To say the truth, the sound was bad, i don't know who was the sound engineer, maybe the band didn't bring their own specialist and trusted the gig to a local guy...i don't know.Their last year appearance had far better sound but performance wise the band played same as good. They were very powerful and delivered us with quality heavy metal for 1 hour and 25 minutes. The stage presence of the band was as usual: Nick in the middle, never moving or headbanging or anything else and the rest of the band going wild around him with Greg doing some cool headbanging.  But if i had the chance to ask the band only one question it would be why did they play for only 1 hour and 25 minutes?! They are not old, they still have power to play at least 20 more minutes and give us some more of their classic songs, the crowd kept shouting for during the show. The ticket price was 28 euros and without the support band, which was not an unknown name (at least here in Greece) the promoters should have returned back to the fans a part of the ticket's price. Paradise Lost paid the fans with a great performance though, and noone complained. It was the last date of their tour and as an encore we heard Small Town Boy and the hit Erased. After much shouting from the crowd the very last song was The Last Time from the legendary Draconian Times.
To sum up,it was a brilliant concert from a brilliant band and if you could ignore the bad sound it was as good as last year. The set list was excellent, it covered a big part of their discography and if they had played for just a little bit longer it would be another plus for their show.I look forward to their new album and i wait for them to come back to Greece to delive us another great show. Killer band!
