English version With
a lot of pleasure I’m holding in my hands the CD of a Swiss newcomer
band which is still on the search for a big label, what would happen
soon by judging the disk I have. Even
if there is still a lot of way to go, these lads show a certain
maturity as in the melodic way as in the sound.
The
arrangements are treated very well, specially the ones from MESNA who is
really great at the keyboards to create an obscure and paranoiac
atmosphere, worth of the best goth bands! PROFOUND
are mixing different music styles, the biggest influences noticed are
from gothic metal, but even Progressive and Trash make part of it. The
opener of the CD is the title song “Tragedy”, which is starting
with a ride in full gothic style, what reminds in me something of the début
of MADRIGAL, the voice is strong and
typically of that style, not too dark but quiet expressive. Next
song is “Synthanism” which is a real showcase of sounds absolutely
perfect in a very claustrophobic track and worth of the best nightmare atmosphere
! What a pity that it ‘s too short! Obviously just synth
inspiration. The
following “Sleeping Hollow” is a classic Paradise Lost styled song
from their “Icon” period , even with modern elements, as from the
rhythm as from the sound view. Also “Between Mirrors Moving” is a very good song ,well built up, both, for rhythm and well arranged. Let’s wish to Profound the fortune they deserve and I won’t be surprised to see this maxi single be part of the newcomer list of one of the big labels (translation by Absolut_Evidence)
German version Mit immenser Freude halte ich in diese CD einer schweizer Band in meinen Händen, die noch nach dem grossen Kontakt sucht, was sicher in der nächsten zeit geschehen wird, wenn man die Maxi Single beurteilt. Auch wenn noch viel zu tun ist , zeigen diese Leute eine gewisse Reife sei es von der Melodik als auch vom Sound. Die Arrangements sind sehr ausgefeilt, hauptsächlich die von MESNA, der seine Synths beherrscht, und eine dunkle und paranoische Atmosphäre kreiert welche in nichts den grössten Goth Bands nachsteht! PROFOUND mischen einige Musikgenre und evident ist vor allem die Influenz von Goth Metal, aber auch Progressive und Trash Metal sind teil davon. Der erste Song ist auch der Titelsong „Tragedy“, welcher mit einem Feuerwerk in vollem Gotik Stihl beginnt und mich an die Anfänge von „MADRIGAL“ zurück führt, eine sichere bestimmende Stimme , wie es typisch ist für dieses Genre, nicht zu dunkel aber äusserst expressive. Nun geht es weiter mit „Synthanism“, eine echte Show von perfektem Sound in einem Track der in klaustrophobischer Weise jeder Albtraumatmosphäre gerecht wird! Schade dass der Song so kurz ist! Ein Werk des Synth..... Der nächste Song auf der Scheibe ist „Sleeping Hollow“ , ein Werk welchen in der ICON zeit von Paradise Lost seinen Platz gefunden hätte, auch wenn dieser Song mit moderneren Elementen , sei es vom Sound Aspekt als auch vom Rhythmischen Aspekt, gemacht wurde. Auch „ Between Mirrors Moving“ ist ein sehr gutes Stück, welches gut aufgebaut wurde was Rhythmus und Arrangement angeht. Wünschen wir Profound das Glück, das ihnen gebührt, und ich würde mich nicht wundern, diese Maxi Single in kürze in der Liste unter den grossen Labels in den Newcomers wieder zu finden. |
