ORIGIN : added to NECROPHAGIST / MISERY INDEX European Tour

Kansas-based death metallers ORIGIN have officially been confirmed for the European tour featuring NECROPHAGIST and MISERY INDEX. Credited with having created some of the most challenging and devastating death metal in its three-album career, ORIGIN is an incredible addition to this blistering package as the replacement for COLDWORKER, who had to pull off the trek due to "scheduling conflicts." Dubbed the "Carving Europe's Epitaph Vol. II" tour, the bill is rounded out by BURNING SKIES opening the first half of the tour while U.S. act DISKREET will be opening up the second half of the tour.

ORIGIN's third full-length CD, "Echoes of Decomation", was released in March 2005 via Relapse Records.

MORTIIS : Completes Work On 'Thrall' Ambient/Atmos Piece

Norwegian artist MORTIIS has issued the following update:

"[I] just finished another ambient/atmos piece. It was the last piece that didn't make the deadline for the 'Broken' film [Adam Mason's ultra-violent horror film whose soundtrack Mortiis contributed to], so it's in that vein sonically and atmospherically. I called it 'Thrall', in the spirit of 'Broken'. If Adam ever gets the DVD version he's been talking about out (which should have a lot more of my music in it that the cinematic version) maybe we'll put it in there, or maybe we'll put it on the soundtrack album I'd like to put out some day. Somehow it'll see the light of day though. I had to finish it, because it really pissed me off seeing it laying around sort of half-done."

Mortiis and Adam Mason worked together for the first time when Mason directed the "Decadent & Desperate" video for the single of the same name.

MORTIIS has been busy writing and recording new material for a new album, to be released 2007 through an as-yet-undetermined label (the band is no longer signed to Earache Records).

"The music so far is pretty varied," said Mortiis. "There's a bunch of really heavy stuff in there, probably the hardest stuff we've done so far, really guitar-driven shit. Then there's some really ambient sounding stuff, very drone-y and atmospheric, as well as some more electronic sounding songs too."

Mortiis noted that the songs are still in various stages of completion, leaving them open to many shifts and changes before the follow-up to "The Grudge" is recorded.

"It sounds really interesting right now," Mortiis said. "Some old vibes came back to us on some of the songs, some 'Smell of Rain' vibes and some 'Grudge' vibes and some new vibes. It's all totally dysfunctional and fucked up in one way or another. Diseased or hurt minds never really heal up, I guess, and because of that, all in all it's going to be a really hard, attacking kind of album with the moody stuff in between."

Some of the working titles are: "Zeitgeist", "Great Deceiver", "The Ugly Truth", "Looking Glass", "Doppelganger", "Sins of Mine", "Scolding the Burnt", "Live Forever" and "Road to Ruin".

Mortiis also recently completed remixes for ZOMBIE GIRL and DOPE STARS INC.'s upcoming releases.

GRAVEWORM : enter Studio next week

Italian/German gothic black metal band GRAVEWORM will enter Stage One studios in Borgentreich, Germany on January 6, 2007 with producer Andy Classen (DEW-SCENTED, CALLENISH CIRCLE, TANKARD, OCCULT) to begin recording its sixth album.

SHADOWS FALL : New Songtitles Revealed

According to MTV.com, the upcoming SHADOWS FALL album "Threads of Life" will include "Redemption", "Burning the Lives", "Another Hero Lost" and "Venomous". The band is currently wrapping up mixing the album with Zeuss (HATEBREED, UNEARTH). Nick Raskulinecz (FOO FIGHTERS, VELVET REVOLVER) produced the disc in Los Angeles at Dave Grohl's Studio 606.

"Nick helped us to push our performances to new heights and experiment a lot more with vocal harmonies and guitar layers that have really added new dimensions to these songs," frontman Brian Fair said in a statement. "This record has a real ebb and flow throughout, covering a wide variety of emotions and levels of intensity. There are the full-on thrash tunes, just balls-out and metal, some technical shred tunes and some acoustic melodic moments that offer a nice contrast to the more brutal moments."

"Threads of Life" is scheduled for release in early spring via Atlantic.

SHINING : Shining are alive

The tickets for next years biggest happening within the scene are now out for sale!
SHINING headline the big stage at Diezel, 3 February in Halmstad, for the celebration of the new album (V Halmstad).
The gig will consist of songs from the whole SHINING era and will be the first apperance
with the new frontman "Ghoul".

DHG (Dødheimsgard), the norweigan cult black metal band, have the honour of playing as
a support act. The last time DHG stood on stage was 7 years ago, when they joined Dimmu Borgir on tour. A third band will be added.

The ceremony takes place at Diezel, Halmstad (close to Gothenburg, Malmoe, Kastrup).

The SHINING gig will
be shot professionally for a forthcoming DVD entitled "Fy Fan För Livet!", which will concist of, besides the gig, a 2 hour long tour roadmovie and the promovideo for the new song "Låt Oss Ta Allt Från Varandra". All in all, a package full of sickness and depravation!

CREST OF DARKNESS: new album recording is finished

Norwegian black metallers CREST OF DARKNESS have finished recording their fifth full-length album, "Give Us the Power to Do Your Evil", with producer Giuseppe Orlando (NOVEMBRE) at the Outer Sound Studios in Rome, Italy. Songtitles set to appear on the CD include "Your Demons", "Revenge Complete" and "Death and Pleasure". An early 2007 release via My Kingdom Music is expected.

Commented CREST OF DARKNESS bassist/vocalist Ingar Amlien: "I'm very happy with the recordings! We had to work very fast while we had only two weeks in the studio, but thanks to Giuseppe Orlando we made it!! It was a pleasure to work with him! I know that all the bandmembers did a great job, but without a good producer I don't believe we could have done this. Most of all I'm very happy because it's sounding very 'honest.' It's not perfect, but that was not what I wanted. This is as close as you can come to the heart of CREST OF DARKNESS."

CREST OF DARKNESS recently announced that it has parted ways with guitarist Akke due to "personal reasons" and has replaced him with Rebo from Amlien's hometown of Gjøvik.

CREST OF DARKNESS' fourth album, "Evil Knows Evil", was released in early 2004 through My Kingdom Music. The follow-up to 2000's "Project Regenration" was recorded at MLP Studio in Gjvik, Norway with co-producer/engineer Nils H. Mhlum. Mastering took place at Outer Sound with Giuseppe Orlando.

STRYPER: live album from 2003 reunion tour

According to MetalForJesus.org, Sony/BMG has added STRYPER to its "Extended Versions" series. A new STRYPER live album, entitled simply "Extended Versions", features live performances from the 2003 reunion tour, including the first live version of "You Won't Be Lonely" to ever be released. Other tracks on the CD are "Makes Me Wanna Sing", "Calling On You", "Free", "More Than A Man", "Reach Out", "The Way", "Soldiers Under Command", "To Hell With The Devil" and "Honestly".

STRYPER's latest CD, "Reborn", is available on Big3 Records. "Reborn" marks STRYPER's first complete studio release of original material in over a decade, since 1990's "Against the Law", and features 10 original tracks as well a new version of the previously released track "In God We Trust". The album was recorded in Massachussetts at Blue Jay Studio, Mixed Emotions, and singer Michael Sweet's home studio.

Original STRYPER members Michael Sweet (lead vocals, guitar), Oz Fox (lead guitar), and Robert Sweet (drums) are joined in the group's current incarnation by bassist Tracy Ferrie.

SAXON: "THE INNER SANCTUM" IN MARCH

SPV/Steamhammer has set a March 5, 2007 European release date for the new album from British metal veterans SAXON, entitled "The Inner Sanctum". The label will also release SAXON's new double live DVD, entitled "To Hell and Back Again". No further details are currently available.

In a recent posting on the band's official web site, SAXON frontman Biff Byford stated about the upcoming CD, "On the next album we're are trying to make a massive affort to target England to bring the profile back up and we have been approached to make a documentary as part of this. It is not a reality show. The [secret] concert in Lincoln [which was held on Oct. 27, 2006] was part of the documentary. There will be many other things happening."

SALEM: RECORD CONTRACT

Salem signed a record contract with French monster label Season of Mist. The new album "Necessary Evil" will be released in the first quarter of 2007. More updates coming up soon.

Playing on at Alrosa

Aaron Beck of The Columbus Dispatch reports:

During a recent concert at the Alrosa Villa, owner Rick Cautela carried on a conversation while keeping an eye on two poker-faced security guards aggressively patting down customers at the front door.

"We feel pretty safe in here, but, you know, the same thing could happen all over again — in any place," said Cautela, standing behind the bar he has tended for more than three decades.

"I'd be more afraid to work in a little neighborhood bar. They can't even afford people (security) to search."

Two years ago today, Marysville resident Nathan Gale shot seven people inside the North Side nightclub.

Four died — including ex-PANTERA guitarist Darrell "Dimebag" Abbott.

DAMAGEPLAN, his Texas heavy-metal band, had just started to play when Gale, a former Marine, climbed over a security fence about 10 p.m., walked past a guard on the patio and entered through the door.

He quickly made his way onto the stage, where he began firing a handgun.

Within three minutes, Abbott as well as DAMAGEPLAN crew member Jeffrey "Mayhem" Thompson, club guard Erin Halk and patron Nathan Bray were dead.

Gale, too, was killed — shot by Columbus Police Officer James Niggemeyer.

Two other crew members, Christopher Paluska and John Brooks, and patron Travis Burnett were wounded.

Inferno Festival

MOONSPELL have been confirmed for the Inferno festival, set to take place April 5-7, 2007 at the Rockefeller Music Hall in Oslo, Norway. Headlining the event will be the reunited Norwegian black metallers IMMORTAL. Sweden's DARK FUNERAL and Norway's DØDHEIMSGARD (DHG) are also slated to perform at the festival. The full lineup will be announced at the festival's kick-off party on February 3, 2007 at John Dee in Oslo.

Danish metallers ILLDISPOSED have been confirmed for next year's installment of the Summer Breeze festival, set to take place August 16-18, 2007 in Dinkelsbühl, Germany. Kataklysm

Kataklysm will be featured on a metal documentary for the program "Méchant Contraste!", which will be aired on Canadian national television "Tele-Quebec", as part of the band's massive pit violence encoutered at the Rouyn-Noranda show in Quebec, Canada last month.
