 DARK FUNERAL

Attera Orbis Terrarum - Part 1' DVD
Lands On Swedish Chart (Nov. 27, 2007)

Swedish black metallers DARK FUNERAL have entered the music DVD chart in their home country at position No. 5 with their first-ever DVD set, "Attera Orbis Terrarum - Part 1". Available on Regain Records, the two-disc set consists of three complete, professionally-filmed live shows and rare bonus footage. The first show was filmed with seven cameras on March 12, 2005 in Katowice, Poland.

The second was filmed the following March in Tilburg, The Netherlands with four cameras. The second disc starts off with a camera-shot show from March 2006 in Paris, followed by the video clip for "Atrum Regina" and previously unreleased amateur footage that chronicles the Swedish black metal band's entire career, including the very first, and now legendary, show in Oslo, Norway on May 4, 1994. The total combined running time for the two discs is nearly four hours.

"Besides the three professionally filmed shows, we wanted this first DVD to also serve as a historical, live documentation of our career with rare and previously unreleased footage," said band leader Lord Ahriman. "This is the first DVD in a series of two that we will be releasing from touring for 'Attera Totus Sanctus'. This first DVD focus on European shows, while the second DVD will focus on South America."

These shows capture DARK FUNERAL, a band known for being one of the most intense live acts, in their natural element — on stage slaying fans with their relentless brand of extreme metal.

 ENGRAVE

Guitarist Mario Gutierrez of the Los Angeles-based death/thrash band ENGRAVE died late last week of gunshot wounds sustained during an argument with his brother-in-law. According to the Los Angeles Times, Gutierrez, a 37-year-old Latino man, was shot in El Sereno, California at about 10:45 p.m. on November 22, Thanksgiving, and died at the scene. LAPD Hollenbeck detectives said that Gutierrez and his brother-in-law got into an argument during the family's Thanksgiving gathering over a remark the brother-in-law had made about Gutierrez's wife. The argument escalated to pushing and shoving, then spilled out onto the street where Gutierrez was shot. The 27-year-old brother-in-law turned himself in to the police a few hours later.

Combining former members of local bands BRAINSTORM and ENTITY, ENGRAVE was formed in Los Angeles in early 1997, according to All Music Guide. With a sound showcasing elements of both traditional death and early thrash metal, the band featured Emilio Marquez, Mario Gutierrez, Adrian Villanueva, and Robert Cardenas. Their first album, "The Rebirth", was issued through SOD magazine's own independent imprint in 1998. A demo, called "The Infernal Bleeding", followed in 1999, and 2001 saw their debut reissued with bonus tracks by WWIII Records. Jimmy Ash replaced Villanueva prior to the band's performance at the Milwaukee Metalfest later that year.

 QUIET RIOT

QUIET RIOT bassist Chuck Wright has released the following statement to MelodicRock.com regarding the passing of the group's lead singer, Kevin DuBrow:

"I'm completely shocked and devastated. I've truly lost a brother and it's a very sad loss for the world of rock n' roll. I'm so very fortunate to have been a part of his life these past 26 years. I have so many fond memories and it's a blessing that these recent few years have been so great with the band. There is no reason to say 'I wish we could have...' We did! I still can't believe I won't be sharing the stage with his larger-than-life presence ever again. The man left a mark wherever he went and I'm heartbroken that he is no longer with us."

QUIET RIOT's latest studio CD, "Rehab", was released on October 3, 2006. The lineup on the album was Kevin DuBrow, Frankie Banali, Tony Franklin and Neil Citron.

QUIET RIOT was the first metal band to top the Billboard chart and is perhaps best known for its cover of SLADE's "Cum on Feel the Noize".

In 2004, DuBrow recorded a collection of cover versions for his first solo album, "In for the Kill".

 ENTHRONED

Belgian black metallers ENTHRONED check in with the following update:

"Due to some problems with the organization of the tour (with GORGOROTH), ENTHRONED has no other choice than to pull off the current tour after the date in Belgium (November 28). Most of what was promised never actually happened, creating severe tensions between the band and the tour promoter. As well some health problems occurred due to the lame state and insalubrity of the tour bus. ENTHRONED would like to apologize towards the fans for something that is beyond our control."

ENTHRONED's new album, "Tetra Karcist", was released in September via Napalm Records. The CD was recorded under the guidance of Harris Johns (SODOM, KREATOR, VOIVOD).  HATE SQUAD

Dockyard 1 is proud to announce the signing of HATE SQUAD!

"The German H8 Core veterans knew already in the early 90s what aggressions could be set into music if you mix Thrash and Death Metal with Hardcore. Hate Squad were one of the bands making this style huge by playing on all of the big festivals over Europe and having some of their biggest hits like "Not My God" and "I.Q. Zero" run on Heavy Rotation on Viva Metalla an MTV´s Headbangers Ball.

Due to their 15th band anniversary in 2008 HATE SQUAD will present a new studio album and you can be sure that there will be a lot of specials to celebrate the band's career! Be prepared for a lesson in Hannover H8core!

Hate Squad will enter Rape Of Harmonies Studios (Heaven Shall Burn, Maroon, Narziss among many others) on Wednesday November 14th, 2007 to start the recordings, the album is scheduled for February 2008!"

 VADER

Polish death metallers VADER have issued the following statement regarding the passing of DECAPITATED drummer Witold "Vitek" Kieltyka, who died at the age of 23 in a Russian hospital from injuries sustained in a recent road collision:

"Known from such bands as DECAPITATED, DIES IRAE, PANZER X... 23-year old, extremely talented drummer, our brother in metal and dear friend passed away... This is another huge loss for the metal scene and the saddest news we have heard this year... we are all in shock...

"VADER members would like to express their deepest condolences to his family and frends. Vitek — R.I.P."

DECAPITATED singer Covan (real name: Adrian Kowanek) was also hurt in the accident, which involved the band's tour bus and a truck carrying wood in Gomel, on the Russia/Belarus border. The frontman reportedly also sustained a head injury in the collision, which is believed to have been the fault of the band's driver (although this has not yet been officially confirmed). Covan has since been moved to a hospital in Kraków, Poland. Doctors describe his condition as stable and he is showing signs of improvement every day.

He was a real cool dude and very down to earth. We had some good times on that tour. I'm just out of words with what happened. On behalf of all in Kataklysm, our deepest thoughts are with Vitek's family and friends. We would also like to send positive messages to Adam "Covan" to keep fighting to get better and come back to the stage soon."

 ISIS

ISIS have been confirmed as the headliner of the Friday Roadburn Festival date — April 18, 2008 — at the 013 Club in Tilburg, The Netherlands.

Currently celebrating their 10th anniversary as a band, the Boston-to-Los Angeles transplants will help fans take part in their milestone anniversary by releasing their entire catalog in one deluxe 12 vinyl-LP box set, and their headlining slot at Roadburn 2008.

Throughout the years, ISIS have maintained their position in the vanguard of post-metal by consistently exploding the idiomatic strictures that have defined heavy music with each successive release. Roadburn reveres ISIS and feel they warrant discussion alongside such established pioneers as NEUROSIS and CELTIC FROST.

Roadburn Festival organizers have also announced that Swiss post-metal stalwarts KRUGER will play the Saturday Roadburn date — April 19, 2008.

The 13th annual Roadburn Festival will take place April 18-19, 2008. Also scheduled to appear on the Friday Roadburn date are WITCHCRAFT, TONY MCPHEE'S GROUNDHOGS, BABY WOODROSE, DANAVA, MOS GENERATOR, BLOOD OF THE SUN, GENTLEMAN'S PISTOLS, LA IRA DE DIOS, ZONE SIX and CHURCH OF MISERY, among others.

 KATATONIA explains Swiss concert cancellation

Sweden's KATATONIA has issued the following update:

"The members of KATATONIA have now since about two weeks been struggling with everything from the flu, ear infections, pneumonia and sinusitis. Two of the members are still on penicillin antibiotics to get well.

"It's safe to say that KATATONIA never want or intend to cancel our own gigs, and it's never been a common situation in our past. Unfortunately, this time the Burgdorfer gig [on October 20] in Switzerland got suffering and had to be canceled in the last minute.

"Why so late, some might rightfully ask? Well, it's easily explained — because we still intended to play it til the last minute! Eventually it just was not possible. The band was both advised and uncapable of flying or playing — doctor's orders. If we would look for replacements for the sick members, it would be an entirely new band playing and we're sure none wants to go see that.

"With that said, we'll do our best to struggle our way through the Norwegian gig in Oslo [at Screamfest] on Saturday [November 3] and hope for your understanding if we're not in top shape yet."

01. Possessed by the Beast
02. Nights in the Cursed Chapel
03. Blessed by Hellfire
04. Rest in Morbid Darkness
05. Bestial Crucifixion

07. Shadows of the Dead

BELPHEGOR PREPARES TO RECORD A NEW ALBUM

The Fleischwerk is scheduled for an European release date in April 11th 2008, Usa in April 15th 2008 via Nuclear Blast Records.
Helmuth comments: "Yeah it's true, since six weeks we've been working our asses off in the rehearsal room and we're already in the pre-production phase. I started the songwriting in May 2006 and directly after the Brazilian tour in September I've bunkered myself with Serpenth and session drummer Torturer into our rehearsal room. Since then we're 100% concentrated in the song-writing process, worked night and day extremely hard on the new tracks. The most of the 9 Compositions/ Arrangements are almost finished"

Later on BELPHEGOR will reveal the title of the album, editions, song titles as well as cover and several images.

THE MASTERPLAN: STAGE ONE STUDIOS AGAIN!

The follow-up to 2006´s masterpiece, PESTAPOKALYPSE VI. The recording-process will reach out til middle of January 2008 with 3 intense sessions, so everything can grow and the band can take the best result. In middle of January 08 everything will be recorded-mixed-mastered so the album is finished.
"Hell yeah, i´m so motivated and it feels extremely good to be creative again. This album is the next logical chapter for the bands development. For me that is not just another moderate Cd, i would go into the deepest fire and give my last drop of blood for this Werk.
More shredding, more cold melodies, more dynamics, more epic harmonies, more cyper-blastbeat-terror,....the freakiest, wildest BELPHEGOR opera concerning guitars.
Lemme tell you, the 9 soundcollages sound huge, its fucking TNT,....u know its BELPHEGOR"
stated Helmuth.

BELPHEGOR will let you in on the progress being made and give you an insight into the recording processes, reports will be posted on this site on a regular basis. So stay tuned and keep an eye on the site.

Matt Zane' s statement about PAUL RAVEN

SOCIETY 1 frontman Matt Zane has issued the following statement regarding the passing of legendary bassist Paul Raven (MINISTRY, PRONG, SOCIETY 1, KILLING JOKE, GODFLESH, MOB RESEARCH):

"Paul Raven was the most stand-up guy I ever had the pleasure to work with. The thing about Raven is that after working together he made an effort in the following years to stay in touch even if it was just to drop you a quick message to let you know he was keeping an eye on you. That was the coolest thing about him. He respected you and made it a point to let you know that.

"With everything he has done with his career he didn't have to stay in contact or even admit his involvement with me and my band but that's what separated him in my eyes from all the other musicians I've had dealings with over the years.

"I have the greatest respect for him. A great musician and a great person. I will truly miss him."

Paul Raven played bass on SOCIETY 1's "Exit through Fear" album and did a brief tour with the band in support of the CD.

Paul Raven was found dead yesterday (Saturday, October 20) in a private home in a small French village on the Swiss border after suffering an apparent heart attack. Raven was in Geneva working with French recording artists TREPONEM PAL on their new release alongside drummer Ted Parsons (PRONG) and members of THE YOUNG GODS.

Born in Wolverhampton, UK on January 16, 1961, Paul Vincent Raven established himself with his work in the seminal post-punk/industrial act KILLING JOKE after he replaced the band's original bassist in 1982, recording and touring with the group throughout its most commercially successful period, performing on "Fire Dances", "Night Time" and "Brighter than a Thousand Suns". Throughout his extensive career, Raven participated in other collaborations, including PRONG, MURDER, INC., PIGFACE and GODFLESH. Most recently, Raven was nominated for a 2006 Grammy for "Best Metal Performance" for his work with MINISTRY's Al Jourgensen, with whom he had begun collaborating in late 2005 on the MINISTRY release "Rio Grande Blood". After a 2006 world tour with the group, Raven helped Jourgensen and PRONG's Tommy Victor pen the latest MINISTRY CD, "The Last Sucker", which is also the band's final studio release.

"Vocalist Gaahl (lyrics) and King (bassist/composer) will continue the scheduled European tour in November under the name GORGOROTH with a replacement for Infernus.

"King and Gaahl will continue to work together musically, performing their art live and recording in the future.

"This decision was reached by Gaahl and King as they have been the driving force behind GORGOROTH's music for the past eight years.

"Infernus has stated he will take King and Gaahl to court over future use of the name GORGOROTH."

 DEMONOID

DEMONOID, the Swedish old-school death/thrash metal project featuring THERION members Kristian Niemann (guitar) and Johan Niemann (bass) along with former SOILWORK/CHIMAIRA drummer Richard Evensand, has recruited DARK FUNERAL vocalist Emperor Magus Caligula to replace THERION's Christofer Johnsson, who sang on the group's debut, 2004's "Riders of the Apocalypse". "We're extremely excited to have [Emperor Magus Caligula] aboard and we can't wait to unleash some seriously face-melting metal upon you," the band writes in a statement.

DEMONOID is working on material for its second full-length CD, tentatively due next year. "The writing for the new album is going quite well....it will crush," says Kristian. "Of course. Imagine a 100-ton block of concrete falling on your nutsack (or head, if you're a girl)....that's how much it will crush!!!!! Now if you don't have: a) a nutsack, nor b) a head, well then.....you just have to take my word for it!"

According to the band's official bio, "the musical concept of DEMONOID is not symphonic metal like THERION; in fact, the band strived to go back in time and create a fresh and challenging combination of basically old school death and violent thrash metal elements, also mingled with a touch of modern black metal.

 AETERNUS

Norwegian "dark metallers" AETERNUS have issued the following update:

"We are glad to announce that we now have a new drummer. We found him through a tip from our original drummer, Erik, and we thank Erik for the tip! His name is Terris and he's working these with [AETERNUS mainman] Ares to get his drumming learned and tuned up for a future gig and then some.

AETERNUS parted ways with drummer S. Winter (FORLORN, A WINTER WITHIN, GEHENNA) due to the fact that "he lives too far away from [the rest of the group] and it became a too big burden to have that type of slow flow in the band," AETERNUS previously said. "It was a shitty decision to make, but also an important one. He's a great drummer and and truly among very few are so dedicated as he is and it made it hard to take this step. Nevertheless, it was done."

AETERNUS' latest album, "HeXaeon", was released last year via Karisma Records. The follow-up to 2003's "A Darker Monument" was recorded at Grieghallen Studios in Norway and was once produced by Eirik "Pytten" Hundvin, who has previously worked with ENSLAVED and MÖRK GRYNING, among others.

Ex-MALEVOLENT CREATION Drummer To Appear On New DISINCARNATE Album

In addition to his newly formed project with Jason Blachowicz (bass; MALEVOLENT CREATION), Rob Barret (guitar; CANNIBAL CORPSE), Chris Basile (guitar; PYREXIA), and Kyle Symons (vocals; MALEVOLENT CREATION, HATEPLOW), drummer Dave Culross (MALEVOLENT CREATION, HATEPLOW, SUFFOCATION) has confirmed that he will participate in the recording process for the long-awaited second album from DISINCARNATE (the band led by former TESTAMENT/DEATH guitarist-turned-producer James Murphy). Culross will also record an EP with MALEBOLGIA, a full-length CD with DEATH SENTENCE (which includes members of SUFFOCATION, THE BLACK DAHLIA MURDER, CATASTROPHIC and MALEVOLENT CREATION), and an LP with SADISTIC.

Says Dave: "I am going to be busy, busy, busy in '08!"

MALEVOLENT CREATION has recruited drummer Fabian Aguirre (SYNAPTICIDE, ex-GRINDCRUSHER, MISTY FATE, ANGEL NEGRO) as the replacement for Dave Culross. Handling the bass duties for the group on the road will reportedly be Marco Martell, who has already previously toured with the band.

GORY BLISTER recorded its appearance at the Evolution Festival on July 7, 2007 in Firenze, Italy to use as possible live bonus tracks to accompany their next release.

GORY BLISTER recently parted ways with vocalist Adry Bellant, who sang on the group's last album, 2006's "Skymorphosys". A replacement frontman has been found in the shape of Clode, formerly of SALMORAR and HATEFILES.

"Skymorphosys" came out in January 2006 via Holland's Mascot Records. The CD, which contains "14 tracks, 52 minutes of pure, fast and warm death metal," was recorded at Fear Studio and was produced by GORY BLISTER and Gabriele Ravaglia. The cover artwork was handled by B-Lial of Hybreed Corp.

GORY BLISTER's full-length debut, "Art Bleeds", was released in 2003 via France's Sekhmet Records.
