FEAR  FACTORY

A new version of FEAR FACTORY has been officially launched featuring the band's original members Dino Cazares (guitar) and Burton C. Bell (vocals) alongside bassist Byron Stroud (who played on the last two FEAR FACTORY albums in addition to touring and recording with STRAPPING YOUNG LAD and ZIMMERS HOLE) and legendary drummer Gene Hoglan (DETHKLOK, STRAPPING YOUNG LAD, DARK ANGEL, DEATH, TESTAMENT). The band is scheduled to play a number of shows this summer as well as record a studio album.

ONHEIL

“Razor”, the long awaited new album from Dutch Blackened Thrash/Death Metal band ONHEIL is set to be released the 15^th of may 2009. This first effort in 6 years will be released worldwide by German metal label Cyclone Empire.

The album has been recorded in the Final Focus Studios and has been produced by Bart Hennephof (TEXTURES, BRUTUS) and Yuma van Eekelen (THE NEW DOMINION, BRUTUS). It are the first songs that are recorded in the new line-up, that was started in 2007, featuring two leadvocalists and three guitarists. Onheil's unique musicstyle is often referred to as “Black Metal Iron Maiden”.

The new album and song material will be officially presented to the world on the 7^th of June at the the cd-release party of “Razor”. This will be a show with Rotting Christ from Greece and is held at Baroeg, Rotterdam, The Netherlands.

An e-card for "Revelations Of The Black Flame", the new album from Norwegian black metallers 1349, is available at this location. Due on June 2 via Candlelight Records, the CD — like "Hellfire" (2005) and "Beyond the Apocalypse" (2004) — was recorded at StudioStudio Nyhagen in Bøverbru, Norway, and was co-mixed by none other than Tom Gabriel Fischer of CELTIC FROST.

HEROD

Buffalo, New York-based power/thrash metal band HEROD has inked a deal with Dark Harvest Records for the release of the group's new EP. The first new material from HEROD in almost three years, "Curse of the King" includes four new tracks that will be exclusive to the release as well as a cover song. The CD was recorded with Mike Hatalak from the band IT DIES TODAY at DWS Studios in Niagara Falls, New York, with assistance from former HEROD vocalist Judah Nero. (Hatalak previously recorded HEROD's 2004 opus "For Whom the God's Would Destroy".) Artwork will once again be handled by Rob Antonucci of Luchador Media. A June release is expected.

MOUNTAINS OF DEATH

SUFFOCATION, SUICIDE SILENCE, HATE ETERNAL and THE FACELESS are among the confirmed bands for the ninth edition of Switzerland's most extreme metal festival, Mountains Of Death, set to take place August 21-22, 2009 in Muotathal, Switzerland.

THE BLACK DAHLIA MURDER

Metal Blade has set a May 12 release date for "Majesty", the brand new DVD from the Michigan-based melodic death metal band THE BLACK DAHLIA MURDER. Vocalist Trevor Strnad comments: "Diehard fans will recognize that the title [of the DVD] has been plucked from the chorus of 'Nocturnal'. It was filmed and edited by our good friend/drinking partner Robbie Tassaro, whom we have worked with in the past for the filming of our 'What A Horrible Night To Have A Curse' video. Robbie is a hilarious man in himself, and probably the only person we could trust to really capture the essence of the band.

"Doing a DVD was something we were very apprehensive about. Doing video stuff is always a risk when you can't afford the luxuries that the MTV darlings can. I mean, look at the majority of death metal videos on YouTube... the comments are all people laughing how cheesy they are. For Christ's sake, look at our video for 'Funeral Thirst'! EX  DEO

Nergal (BEHEMOTH), Karl Sanders (NILE) and Obsidian C (KEEP OF KALESSIN) will make guest appearances on "Romulus", the debut album from EX DEO, the new band led by KATAKLYSM frontman Maurizio Iacono. Nergal will appear in the song "Storm The Gates Of Alesia", singing a very famous Caesar quote; Sanders laid down a ripping solo in the song "The Final War (The Battle Of Actium)" which deals with Antony and Cleopatra's defiance of Octivian in Egypt, and Obsidian C will lend a majestic and melodic solo to the track "Cruor Nostri Abbas".

Commented Maurizio: "It's an honor for me that such talented musicians and friends lended their art for a couple songs on this album. I only asked a few selected people that had involvement with history through their music and related to this band's concept , so I salute them for contributing to Rome's rise and they shall be amply rewarded for it."

EX DEO will make its live debut this September/October on the special edition of Europe's biggest pagan/folk metal tour, Paganfest.

KATAKLYSM/EX DEO

KATAKLYSM: OFFERS TOUR UPDATE AND EX DEO PLANS
 

KATAKLYSM recently checked in from the road while on tour with NAPALM DEATH.  Frontman Maurizio Iacono offered the following update:

"We're well into the first week of tour with our old friends in NAPALM DEATH. The shows have been good and everything is under control. We look forward to all the dates and completing the touring cycle for 'Prevail' in 2009.  We will do some Euro festivals immediately after this tour is done and then go to Russia and Europe for a short headliner with DEATH ANGEL. The last thing on the agenda regarding KATAKLYSM will be a full European headliner in January 2010 to wrap things up until the next album.

So after these tour are done our focus will immediately change to our new band EX DEO, which will be released by Nuclear Blast Records in June. The hype behind ‘Romulus’ is gaining massive momentum and this is such a big project! We need get things ready with the live aspect of things and to rehearse and be prepared for Paganfest Europe. Having said that we decided to decline all tour offers coming for KATAKLYSM for the rest of the year. We might also bring this epic band to the States but were not sure yet, since it has to be the right tour.






We’re going to announce some cool news regarding EX DEO next week. So if you want to watch KATAKLYSM in the states one last time before the next album drops (not before 2011), this would be the tour to come visit us and party like we usually do. A big thank you to the fans for making ‘Prevail’ a very succesfull album worldwide. Now I must gather my legions and take back the throne of metal! The scene needs a kick in the ass back to rebellion and Rome is coming!"

EX DEO is the new band featuring members of KATAKLYSM. Their debut album Romulus will be released in North America by Nuclear Blast Records on June 19th (Europe) and June30th (North America).

KILLSWITCH ENGAGE

Massachusetts' KILLSWITCH ENGAGE will release their eagerly anticipated fourth album, entitled simply "Killswitch Engage", on June 30 via Roadrunner Records. The CD was produced by Brendan O'Brien (AC/DC, RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE) and co-produced by guitarist Adam Dutkiewicz. Songtitles set to appear on the album include "Reckoning", "The Forgotten", "Light in a Darkened World" and "Starting Over".

Commented vocalist Howard Jones: "It was time for us to step outside of our comfort zone and try something a little different with this record. It definitely still sounds like us, but we needed to be refreshed and take things a little further."

Regarding the fact that KILLSWITCH ENGAGE's new album is the second self-titled effort of the band's career, Jones said, "When we all couldn’t agree on an album title, someone suggested we just keep it self-titled and we all pretty much agreed…gives it the feeling of a fresh new beginning."

HYDROGYN

Kentucky-based rockers HYDROGYN have issued the following update:

"It is with much frustration that the band has announced today the rescheduling of the European tour for the fall of this year. Guitarist Jeff Westlake has suffered an injury to his left wrist in an accident and will not be able to play for a three-to-four-week period."

Commented Jeff: "It was just a freak thing that happened and I ended up with my wrist fractured so I will just deal with it and be ready to move on hopefully by mid to late May. I would also like to take this time to apologize to all of our fans who were planning on attending the shows and the promoters as well for all the hard work; we will reschedule the dates for fall and I will be looking doubly forward to doing those dates so hold on to your tickets and we will be announcing the new dates soon."

SATYRICON

Bassist Victor Brandt has left the Norwegian black metal band SATYRICON.

In addition to touring with SATYRICON for the past few years, Brandt has appeared on the band's "My Skin Is Cold" and "The Age Of Nero" recordings and is featured in the video for the song "Black Crow On A Tombstone" (see clip below).

Brandt is continuing to record and perform with TOTALT JÄVLA MÖRKER, which will release a new full-length album, "Söndra & Härska", this summer via Regain Records.

AC/DC

Tonight's (Sunday, March 29) AC/DC concert at Hallenstadion in Zürich, Switzerland has been postponed due to undisclosed "technical difficulties" that are not related to the venue. Swiss concert organizers Good News Productions have yet to announce a make-up date for the show.

The Zürich concert sold out in less than half an hour after tickets went on sale last October.

BLOODSTOCK OPEN AIR 2009

"The Bloodstock team are delighted to announce that both BLIND GUARDIAN and CRADLE OF FILTH have been added to the bill for Bloodstock Open Air 2009. The pair will co-headline one day of the festival and the event will mark the ONLY UK shows of 2009 for both bands!

Following Blind Guardians unfortunate cancellation in 2007, the Bloodstock Open Air team have responded to constant demand from the festivals core fans and brought the band back to Bloodstock at the earliest possible opportunity."

SYBREED

SYBREED BACK IN STUDIO

Swiss industrial metal frantic machine SYBREED is in studio recording their new album to be out on Listenable Records before the end of the year. Seth from Septicflesh is working on the artwork and layout while the final mix will be done by Rhys Fulber.

SYBREED drummer, Kevin Choiral has just signed an endorsement deal with Zildjian, Tama and Evans. Regarding his new Zildjian endorsement, Kevin announced: "For me, Zildjian is by far the best brand of cymbals; the quality, the finishes and the sound are unique. I have been using Zildjian cymbals for fifteen years and to be a part of the Zildjian family of Artists is a true honour."

Legendary British/American heavy metal trio RAVEN will release its new album, "Walk Through Fire", on March 25 in Japan through King Records. The CD was recorded at the Assembly Line Studios with engineer/mixer Kevin 131 (PROJECT: FAILING FLESH, DECEASED, DYSRYTHMIA, GARDEN OF SHADOWS).

RAVEN vocalist/bassist John Gallagher previously stated about the new CD, "It's the right combination of spontaneous lunacy captured with the sounds we've always wanted."

KISS bassist/vocalist Gene Simmons has issued the following update:

"It's a busy time. KISS is recording its first new album in ten years and we're rehearsing for the South American stadium tour, which starts April 1. Then we head to start the Canadian tour..."

THE BERZERKER

Vocalist Luke Kenny of Australia's THE BERZERKER has issued the following update:

"At 4:00 a.m. (EST) this morning, our guitarist Tim Aldridge was rushed to hospital. After throwing up more than a pint of blood, with blood pooling in his stomach, he was operated on at 8:00 a.m. (EST), we are now waiting patiently to hear how the operation went. After frantic calls at 5:00 a.m. (EST) to various guitarists looking for someone to fill in, we have been forced to pull the New Zealand [leg of the Industrial Corruption] tour [with THE AMENTA]. The band is deeply saddened by this event. More information will be released as we have it."

THE AMENTA will continue on without THE BERZERKER and will play the remaining shows as a headliner.

Commented THE AMENTA guitarist Erik Miehs: "Our thoughts go out to Tim and THE BERZERKER guys. This is terrible news and we are extremely disappointed that they will not be joining us in New Zealand. We must stress however that THE AMENTA will be continuing with the tour and will play all scheduled dates."

POISON THE WELL

Miami's POISON THE WELL has set "The Tropic Rot" as the title of its new album, due on June 16 via Ferret Music (one day earlier internationally). The follow-up to 2007's "Versions" was produced by Steve Evetts (THE DILLINGER ESCAPE PLAN, SEPULTURA, EVERY TIME I DIE).

DEVILDRIVER

Santa Barbara, California's DEVILDRIVER will film a video for an as-yet-undisclosed track from the band's upcoming album, "Pray For Villains", on April 9 with director Nathan Cox

DEVILDRIVER will headline this summer's "Thrash And Burn Tour", which will kick off on July 22 and run through August 30. A European tour with BEHEMOTH and GOJIRA will follow in October.

HATESPHERE

Audio samples of all the tracks that are set to appear on "To The Nines", the new album from Danish thrashers HATESPHERE, are available at JPC.de.

"To The Nines" will be released via Napalm Records on the following dates:

THYRFING

Swedish "viking metallers" THYRFING have issued the following update:

"We are glad to welcome Fredrik Jansson (ex-DYSPLASIA) as new full-time member and guitarist of THYRFING. Fredrik has been helping us out as session member during the shows we made in 2008 and it has been working out extremely well on all levels. So from today, the band is back as a six-piece again!"

War Anthem Records will release the vinyl edition of "Hels Vite", the latest album from THYRFING, at the end of March.

"Hels Vite" came out in the U.S. on January 27 via Regain Records.

EX DEO

EX DEO, the new band led by KATAKLYSM frontman Maurizio Iacono, has finalized the track listing for its debut album, "Romulus", due on May 22 (Europe) and June 16 (North America) via Nuclear Blast Records. The CD was recorded with producer (and KATAKLYSM guitarist) Jean-Francois Dagenais

Maurizio says:"I’m now back home after quite a long journey to Canada (to record the rest of my vocals for EX DEO) and Belgium with Kataklysm for some good beers and a good time (headlining the Maximum Metal & Hardcore Festival). It was killer! Meeting up with old friends is always fun times.

From there I flew to Belgrade, Serbia where I filmed the video for the title track "Romulus." The set up was extremely pro. Stanimir "Staca" Lukic and Ivan did such an amazing job and paid attention to every single detail. To recreate Rome and the story of Romulus and Remus was a big challenge, but I think we nailed it and the ideas behind it are incredible. Expect an epic feel, like the movie "300" for the texture... A big thank you to all the film crew and the actors!

I’m also glad to say the album is complete! J-f, Steph , Max , Francois and Jo did a fantastic job. I can’t thank you enough for the dedication for a project so close to my heart (it’s a part of us all now!). The sound is in your face, huge and with so much feeling it will grab you instantly.

This is some of the best material we have ever written as a band and a completely different outlook and feel then what we have done before. Expect anthem after anthem!

NECRODEATH

Guitarist Maxx has left long-running Italian black-thrash metal heroes NECRODEATH for "personal reasons." The band has opted not to replace him and will carry on as a quartet.

In other news, NECRODEATH has entered Outer Sound Studio in Rome, Italy to begin recording its eighth album.

LACRIMOSA

A one-minute teaser for "Sehnsucht", the new album from Swiss gothic metallers LACRIMOSA, is available on the band's MySpace page.

"Sehnsucht" is scheduled for release on May 8 via Hall Of Sermon.

EARTH CRISIS

Reunited hardcore legends EARTH CRISIS will hit the road with WALLS OF JERICHO, REIGN SUPREME and UNHOLY throughout the month of May. A list of confirmed dates can be found on the EARTH CRISIS MySpace page.

EARTH CRISIS recently posted a new song, "To Ashes", on teh band's MySpace page. The track comes off the group's new album, "To The Death", which is scheduled for release on May 5 via Century Media Records (April 20 in Europe). The self-produced CD was recorded at Castle Recording Studios in Utica, New York and was mixed by Tue Madsen (HEAVEN SHALL BURN, DARK TRANQUILLITY, MOONSPELL, THE HAUNTED). Artwork for the effort was handled by Paul Romano (MASTODON, GODFLESH).

DEVIL SIDE FESTIVAL 2009

MOTÖRHEAD, ANTHRAX and SOULFLY are among the confirmed bands for the Devil Side Festival 2009, set to take place Sunday, June 28 at Landschaftspark in Duisburg-Nord, Germany.

SOLITUDE AETURNUS

Long-running Texas doomsters SOLITUDE AETURNUS — who feature in their ranks current CANDLEMASS singer Robert Lowe — have issued the following update:

"SOLITUDE AETURNUS are scheduled to play their first Dallas/Ft. Worth show in over two years at the Rockstar Sports Bar on April 17. The band will bring their dark cloud of heavy air to the venue, crushing all in attendance. Also on the bill are local hard rock kings BLOOD OF THE SUN, ORGASMATRON and new local doom metal band KIN OF ETTINS. SOLITUDE AETURNUS are also scheduled to appear at Rock City open air fest in Romania on August 21. Sharing the stage with such bands as AMON AMARTH, PRIMAL FEAR, PAUL DI'ANNO, GRAVE DIGGER and others! More live show announcements and a state of affairs from the band to be announced soon."

SOLITUDE AETURNUS's latest album, "Alone", was released in November 2006 through Massacre Records. The CD was recorded at Nomad Studios in Carrolton, Texas with Sterling Winfield (PANTERA) and J.T. Longoria (KING DIAMOND) sharing engineering duties.

BLOOD RED THRONE

Norwegian death metal tyrants BLOOD RED THRONE have finished recording their fifth studio album at Studio Deadline in Trollhattan, Sweden with Valle Adzic (who also mixed the band's two previous studio CDs). Entitled "Souls Of Damnation", the new LP's release will coincide with the band's 10th anniversary, which will be celebrated in the form of a DVD, to be included in a special version of the album. The DVD will feature an in-depth studio diary, documenting the recording process of the new CD, along with an exclusive new interview with the band.

"Souls Of Damnation" is scheduled for release on June 1 through Earache Records.

The band will preview new material on the opening day of the Inferno festival in early April in Oslo, Norway, and is currently booking other shows in support of the new CD.

ROCK OUT FESTIVAL  postponed

Australia's Rock Out festival — which was scheduled to take place next month in Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne — has been postponed until the fall.

A statement from the festival organizers reads as follows: "MTD4 and Blade Promotions, after consultation with the venues and major stakeholders, including the international artists, have decided that it is in the best interest of all parties concerned to postpone the event to September/October this year. The new dates will be advised as soon as possible.

"We anticipate announcing additional headline bands to join those previously listed as the postponement allows us to restore the event to our original concept including multiple stages, all ages ticketing and camping at all sites.

"We apologise if this postponement causes any inconvenience to those that have already purchased tickets to our event and encourage them to contact us directly: contact@rockoutfestivals.com.au."

SUSPERIA 

Athera (real name: Pal Mathieson), vocalist with Norwegian metal band SUSPERIA, was rushed into Akershus Universitetssykehus Hospital in Lørenskog, Norway on the morning of March 9 suffering from acute stomach pains and heavy bleeding. Initial tests revealed that the singer had suffered a heart attack caused by a damaged blood vessel. Athera is currently in the intensive care unit under close observation, while further tests are carried out. He is expected to remain hospitalized for the foreseeable future. At this moment, future plans, including touring commitments, remain unchanged until a full diagnosis of his condition has been confirmed.

"Tonight's [Sunday, March 8] second show in Stockholm [Sweden] has been cancelled due to James [Hetfield, guitar/vocals] falling ill and receiving medical attention at the hospital. The show WILL be rescheduled sometime this spring, so keep watching this space for more details. FIVE FINGER DEATH PUNCH's song "The Bleeding" will be featured in forthcoming movie "Highgate Vampire", directed by Asa Bailey.

"Highgate Vampire" tells the story of four American teenagers — Cathy, Amy, Salem and Alex — who all meet on the Internet, and decide to get together for a weekend of fun in London's gothic Camden town. As they take a guided tour around one of London's Victorian cemeteries, they hide among the ancient graves and are locked in for the night. Darkness falls, and mysterious things start to happen as the spirit of the Highgate Vampire takes over. Being a vampire has its challenges, and through the film we watch the characters battle with good and evil, love and hate, and with what it means to have been granted the ultimate power to kill.
